Who has a English mastiff that can tell me about how the drooling is...

Our first EM did not have very long jowls & because of that we did not experience a lot of drool. Thankfully Duchess is damn near the same way. So far her jowls have stayed small & the only time she really ever drools or gets slimy is immediately after she drinks water. Other than that we're drool free! :)

mine drool if it's hot, or they eat or drink, or you are eating, or sometimes they just drool. sometimes when they shake it actually does hit the ceiling, no lie. i have found that Mr. Clean Magic Erasers are the ultimate drool cleaning tool. some other cleaners literally take the paint off, but leave the slinger!

Ruger is a DROOLER!! If you say the word Peanut Butter he literally salivates and buckets fall out. He drools and slobbers when he eats and drinks, when he is playing hard, any time food is a possibility and if he is nervous/upset/angry or very excited. I was not prepared for the amount of droll he would offer but I am pretty use to it now. I carry a rag everywhere I go, I gave up wearing black months ago, I warn everyone at work and I absolutely adore him BIG OLD slobbers and everything! :)

Sadies drooling is getting worse the older she gets. My son has slipped on the tile floor in the kitchen a few times LOL. He did not think it was funny at all

My current pup is 5.5 months and has not began drooling but does drink in a very messy way and is beginning to leave slobber in the bowl. I have a towel on a bar above his bowl and he wipes his face after drinking. My last OEM began the slobbering around a year, was a professional "slinger" at age 1.5 and slimmed everything within sight by age 3. Magic erasers work well on slime that has dried on the walls, ceiling, tables, etc.

My EM doesn't drool nearly as much as the bullmastiff that I sometimes dog sit does, but he does slobber quite a bit when drinking and when I'm getting his food ready. I finally put a rug down in the kitchen where I mix his kibble because there would literally be a puddle where he was sitting and waiting for his dinner/breakfast. When people ask about his drool, I always say, "He doesn't drool THAT much..." and then grin. My boyfriend gets grossed out when Romy wipes his chin on him, but I just tell him, "Aww... it's just love juice!"

My EM drool gets in places that you wouldn't think possible! Nothing is safe, walls ,ceilings,electronics,children,company,etc---well you get the point

Murphy isn't too bad. Well I guess it depends on who you ask lol!!!!

He leaves most of his SLIME in his water bowl. I call it his "spit-tune" I say carrot and there is drool. Other then that he is great. He has a habit of sucking on his blankets like a pacifier so he leaves most of his drool on his blankets.

My walls would dis agree with me. And there has been times he has shook his head and all of a sudden my hair is wet or my face, but I'm all good with it. After raising 3 kids there isn't much I can't handle.

One thing my husband said the other day has me worried. Since we have only had Murphy for 4 months I haven't experienced the drolcicles yet........Now I might have a problem with frozen drool!

Same as above posts......after eating, drinking, exercise, watching you eat something. We find evidence (slingers) on the walls very often so I assume while they are just chillin on the couch while we are gone too:scared2:
This is the same as Waylon but when he does start to drool there is A LOT!!!!!!

Our boy drools when he eats, drinks, sees us cooking or eating. We just keep a drool rag in every room of the house so it's handy when we need it. He has had his mouth wiped constantly since he was a puppy, so now whenever he eats he'll come and find us to wipe his face then he'll go and get a drink. He then finds us again to wipe his face after drinking. He's a spoiled boy! I think the wiping his face and jowls have helped his teeth stay healthy-- the vet always comments on what nice teeth he has!

Lincoln's an 8 month old EM male and he really doesn't drool that much. He doesn't just randomly drool at all and doesn't really drool or salivate when eating. The only time he drools (which happens pretty much every time) is after drinking water. We just keep a rag near his water bowl and one near our seats in the living room. We call him over after drinking and wipe off the excess water before he trails it everywhere.

Loki seems to actually drool the most when he is excited! Of course all the other normal times too but more he is excited.

I had to laugh at some of these comments. Our baby started the drooling and the slingers around 4-5 months old when her lips started to droop. At first I was mortified but you get used to it. We take a towel with us all the time :) and we have to catch her 'foo man choo' drools after she eats or she will shake her slingers all over the walls :) She even drools when she's hot... got to take the bad with the good... it's such a beautiful breed.

i have a question on drool rags......do you use a hand towel or do you use a regular size towel for this? I was thinking a hand towel would not be big enough for them from all the drool stories I have read.

I use a beach towel. It gets a better reaction from guests.

We have four EMs and from early on we train them to "wipe their mouth". Drooling is not bad at all. Water left in the jowls after they drink can be fun. We have towels they run their jowls over to wipe off.

Gosh, how did you manage to train them to do that? My baby is 3 next month - too late to train? I'm always running around with a towel! :)
