Looking online for doggie doors & WTF sorry but WOW, it's a door with a hole in it & a flap.... How hard is it to make one, yes I googlied it & it seems not that hard.... Has anyone else made a doggie door????? I also looked into the wall mount ones, which is doable also.... Do I really need aluminum frame, can't it just be framed with wood & with flaps attached on either side.... This is a back porch instillation.... I am trying to do this with the least amount of sticker shock as possible.... So three questions: Anyone make a doggie door, info please????? Anyone make a wall mount doggie go through, info please????? Anyone know of reasonably priced doggie doors or go through???? Thanks Tracy :)

I
have this door. I have had the petsafe dog door, and my dogs tore the rubber flap trying to go in 2 at a time. The gun dog door is a great door, keeps the weather out, has a life time guarantee, and is very durable. The ONLY problem I have with it is that it is LOUD. You definitely know when your dog has left the house. But it is big enough, strong enough, weather proof enough and easy enough to install. I don't know how much you want to spend, but it is under $150

Just an FYI. I had thought about getting one also and it was brought to my attention that if it's big enough for a Mastiff to go through, it's also big enough for a human to crawl though and get into your house easily.

Not worried about anyone crawling through... it's a back porch & the whole yard is fenced & gate locked... & honestly whoever is dumb enough to enter a Mastiff's property has a rude awakening coming.... Could ya see the dumb ass face going through a doggie door coming face to face with a mastiff LMAO......

Get one of the doors that locks unless the dog has the special tag on his collar if thats a concern. But I have to admit, it'd be funny to watch Apollo finding a stranger climbing through his dog door (not that we have one lol, but yah, it'd be funny!)

This. They make doors that will only operate if the dog has it's electronic collar on. I watched some German shepherds that had these. I just shut the dog door off at night so the dogs wouldn't get it the pool. Might be more money but it would give me more peace of mind knowing someone couldn't crawl through it. Never know how dumb people are

For going under the house I just found the studs and cut out the paneling then framed the top in with a fireblock for the header. I hinged the peice I cut out and stuck it back in place so I can close and latch it if needed, hung carpet over the opening. Cost me about 3 bucks to do.

I've thought about getting one of those... Then, I could leave the glass door open and the dog(s, eventually) could come in and out, but no critters or kids could use it..... Then again, if I have the storm door (big glass outer door), I could just get a regular (huge) doggie door so the dogs AND the kids could use it at will. :p I'd just shut the glass door if I didn't want them going outside...

I see a Home Depot trip in our future.......

This is something I've been considering but I've got 3 sliding glass doors to my backyard. I'll have to check into the sliding glass dog doors. As others have said, I'm not worried about someone breaking in with my dogs.

Welp did research & the main thing with a Mastiff or any large breed doggie door is durability... & lets not forget how big their heads are which can smash flimsy metal, hell it can smash most things, when they put their minds to it... Found a Utube video & the guy used Styrofoam & duct tape, that cost him $3 bucks... Don't see that one lasting with big heads LMAO :D....

If you have the moola buy the best.... They have every conceivable door, window, wall mount out there, for a price...

In my case going to improvise (wing & a prayer as I call it) have two options with door & wall mount.... I can use slider window in wall, can get used for cheap... Will let you know how it comes out... Have to take measurements see what works.....price window, plexiglass, hinges, wood etc but what I'm thinking is doable.... It's on back porch so it affords me the luxury of not caring how it looks LOL.... Love being creative & saving money.... Happy Tracy Happy Mastiff
