Vet visit done! Last night, but I was too pooped after driving in that horrendous traffic to post the update
Well, first, I changed vets because I FINALLY found someone who supports the Raw diet! The only thing he adds is that Boone'll probably need a little more deworming than normal because of the kind of meat we get here. Yayyyyyyy! Plus this guy isn't the "I'm going to give shots/medication/whatever else I can pass off" if the dog doesn't need it (like the one I was going to earlier - Boone got a shot every single time whether he needed it or not!). Plus, he also deals with alternative medicine (like homeopathy)!
Coming back to the thread, apparently Boone has a weird (genetic) issue where his body isn't absorbing the calcium it's getting the way it should. (His sister is facing the same issue, I'd called to check. BYBs
) . And now with his growth spurts, at the time when he's looking plump (right before he grows and looks lanky), there's extra load on his joints which, due to his calcium absorption thing, he compensates for by putting more pressure on his shoulder. AND because of this, his paws are also turning outwards a little bit.
The right shoulder he'd probably bumped somewhere a couple of days ago and when he sat down that night and got back up, the pain must have come in full force, causing the limp.
There's some homeopathic pills he's on, which should work to repair whatever damage is there. Plus, I have to start taking him out swimming. No walks till his legs are better, which, because it needs to be done gradually, might take a couple of months.
Nothing to worry too much about, I'm assured
. Apparently, we caught it in time. Another couple of weeks and the calcium thing might have caused long term really damaging issues. So the fact that he started limping is a bonus for us.
Yeah, and just for fun, I called the previous vet today. He asked me to bring Boone in for vitamin shots! Which he's given four times already! I'm glad I don't have to go back there.
The hunt for a dog friendly swimming pool begins today!
