1st Shutzhund experience

Had a great day today at the Centennial Shutzhund club in CO. Went there to ask questions, get a better understanding of the sport, and to see if Gusto had the right temperament for this sport. I feel like I met a group of new friends! Knowledgeable and so willing to teach, I look forward to learning all I can. Gusto was complimented for his high threshold, confidence, and calmness. One member even stated they had never seen such a good test! This group uses mainly positive reinforcement-I feel like I have found a training home :)

great to hear! even if you decide not to go a sch route with your dog, you may find these trainers very capable of helping you achieve whatever it is you do want to do with your dog. a great resource to have available to you for sure.

As many have commented my resources for training have not been great so this group will be a great resource.

How much does something like that cost?
I'm sure there are training aids needed and if it a club there will be dues etc.
When do they meet during the evenings, weekends or during the week

Club dues are around $300 for the year, covers equipment and nobody gets paid- they meet on Saturdays for 4hours and Tuesday evenings. I don't know yet what personal equipment I will need.

For IPO you will need:
harness
dumbells
long line
short line or a tab
tugs / balls / whatever other reward
e-collar or prong (your choice)
fur saver collar for trialing
articles for tracking
jumps (clubs have this usually)
microchip or tattoo for identification purposes during trials
I think this is all
