10 Month CC in heat!

My girl is in heat now... the bleeding started last thursday... how long does the bleeding last? Her energy level is down and is not eating quite as much! Also, once the first heat comes does that mean they stop growing in height?

My dogs have generally bled for 3-4 weeks, longer when they were younger and shorter when they were older. I'm not sure about the growing though, I got my female dogs as adults.

My experience was been the same as scorning's, with the heat lasting around 4 weeks. A little less than three of those weeks with bleeding. With my girl, she had her first heat at 9 months and did continue to get taller. She grew in height until she was around a year and a half, although very little toward the end. She got more bulk from ages 2-3. I had her spayed at 4 years old because she cycled every 4 1/2 to 5 months, which put her at greater risk for pyometra as she got older.

Kahlua was about 3-4 weeks as well. We tried the diapers and they rubbed too much so we actually ended up taking a trip to Target and finding some super soft and loose toddler shorts (technically it was a romper and I cut it and made it be toddler shorts). The toddler shorts worked great to keep the little droplets off the furniture and floor while not rubbing or irritating her at all. We would take it off whenever we let her run around in the back yard.

Kahlua continued to grow a bit after her first heat as well, a little bit of height and definitely more bulk and muscle.

I don't know if it is scientifically accurate but I always imagine that the lower energy and decreased appetite is because periods are as miserable for them as it is for me. I know I am pretty poopy and miserable whenever I'm in heat. :p

I read that dogs don't shed their uterine lining like humans do so they don't get cramps or feel bad physically. But then again I don't really know

I believe they do have cramps. My daughter's Rottie was so miserable and vocal. My daughter tried to rub her belly area to help and at one point she pawed my daughter's face causing a corneal scar. Poor girl (both of them.) But, yes, I believe they have a miserable time, though exercise for both species seems to help.

Lucky Kahlua only had to go through it once. For her sake and Diesel's it was just better to fix her after the first one. She was a shameless hussy when in heat and would not leave poor Diesel alone. But, when she wasn't being a hussy she seemed incredibly miserable and begged constantly for tummy rubs. I, of course, obliged.
