So my pup Big Herc still hates his cage, no matter how long hes in there for. He doesnt even bark when i put him in, he whines like a baby lol. So i let him sleep in my room sometimes so he doesnt freak out. any suggestions?

Was the crate training something his breeder started? If not how did you go about introducing it? If you are letting him out when he whines and it is something that you have done previously you are causing your own problem as now your pup has figured out that if he whines you will just open the cage.

We pretty much weaned Denna out of the crate at about that age... She just slept on her bed at the foot of ours.

Of course... she had to go back in a crate when home alone at about 8 months until 15 months or so... due to her wanting to de-stuff & shred pillows while we were away...

The 8 month+ crate was a different crate (big 54" wire crate), so we introduced it separately from her first crate (airline style).

I'd go back to basics and have a "crate treat"... something he REALLLY wants, but can ONLY eat/chew while IN the crate.

I agree with black shadow. The key is never to give in when the dog barks or whines to be let out, no matter what. My husband and I pretty much did not sleep at all the first night Ajax came home and was crated. He would maybe quiet down for an hour or so, and then start again. Second night was better. Third night he barely made a sound. Being tough works, plus, what denna's mom said, a crate treat might help as well.
