A TM doing Agility? Am I nuts?

Ok folks I want your opinions please. The club I used to do obedience training with have started doing Rally-O, Working Trials and Agility on a Sunday and I want to get my two involved. Bear (Akita) I think could do any of the three so am not too concerned there, but what about Mooshi (TM)? I really want to get her in to a sport as well but which one of the 3? I know little to nothing about Rally-O, its pretty new here in the UK. Agility I have seen on TV and it looks like fun, Working Trials? This looks pretty complicated and maybe I am better to start with Rally-O and Agility? Obviously I can only handle one dog per class and these run only on a Sunday so while I work with one the other will wait in the car, hense needing to do two different sports.

So....do I try and do a sport with Mooshi and if so which one?? I really appreciate your suggestions, even if you think I cant or shouldnt do this.

Rally-o is sign obedience any dog can do it... Fun and Mooshi & you would have a blast

Agility why not .. I know a Great Dane, my male Presa and a CCs who do it
Mooshi should be in that list

Working trial - what do they consider working trial? That can mean anything

I excited for you :)

http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/270 Working Trials link. Maybe I do Rally-O with Mooshi and Agility with Bear...oh damn I dont know, I am so confused. She is a typical stubborn TM, but scary smart.

The best way to know is ask the staff if you could take Mooshi on the equipment. If she likes it then you'll know. Conan completely loves it.
Make sure jumps are a hop instead of a jump so it's fun not work.

Ill look at the link when I'm at work & not on my phone.

As long as the dog likes to move agility is a great sport both physically and mentally. I have Jiggers in an upper level training class where we are starting to work on distance and longer combinations. He loves it. My last OB class with Kryten included an introduction to agility and he seemed to not really enjoy it. It also included a rally-o course and that he excelled at. If I could put Kryten in shows I might of continued with that for him but since he's unregistered that option is unavailable to us. I think it all boils down to what you know your dog is most likely to enjoy. Mooshi could surprise you.

Go for it! Any time your willing to work your dog is a good time.

Personally, I would chose the one that I had to do the least in. I'm not running around out on a course. LOL

Thanks guys....the courses start at the beginning of May, what i think I may do is start Moo with Rally-O and Bear on Agility, then after the 4 week course is done swap them over, try Bear on Rally-O and Moo on Agility. Then I can take it from there and see which one suits which dog best and continue on. Its something I want to do ongoing anyway so why try them on both and see which suits right?

So how I read the working it's more of a competition
Agility
Noise work
Obedience

Pretty easy really ... Might be fun :)

I think we'll leave working for the future....Bear off lead in an open field is not a good combo. In a controlled class room he is 100% fine, total focus on me, in an open field though I wouldnt like to tempt fate as is he DA and an Akita's recall off lead in a field is iffy at best.

Oh completely understand sometimes baby steps are the best steps to take :)
Can't wait to hear all you do with both of them

I am hoping to get Conan over in one of the practice classes bc I would love to g for his USSAA (agility org.) he would be the first Presa with a title there. I actually had to get them to put his breed in ..

I donno about agility with Mooshi, but Rally-O would probly be very cool. I know I can't picture Apollo following, off lead from any kind of a distance, directions well enough to follow directions as to which obsticle to do next. On the other hand if she decides she likes it then she might!

Im really looking forward to trying...it should be good fun and thats all I want to do, is have a bit of fun with them. Do something interesting and to get their brains active...be a good 'mommy. So Bear will have his Pets as Therapy on a Tuesday, Mooshi ring craft on a Thursday and both a sport on a Sunday. What more can a full time working parent do I ask you? LOL.

Good luck with Conan Deb. Fingers crossed for you.

I think Rally-O for Moo will be the way to go also Ruth, to start with anyway. I asked my breeder what she thought of Moo doing Agility and she laughed...nuff said I think. :)

yah, probly!

Considering that this is the same dog who decided that 3 times standing up for the judge and doing the whole down and back thing was 3 times to many at Crufts ...... ;)

hahaha yeah i did, its great and that would be Mooshi for sure! You have a valid point about the crufts thing for sure, but am hoping that Rally-O or Agility may be considered fun in her stubborn TM brain! Well a girl can hope cant she?

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Thats awesome.I dont know much about TM's. But from reading Ruth and yours post, seems they dont really care how you like it. ahahaha. So I think agility would be some work yea? Even if she liked it, getting her to do what you want verse what she wants could be work?

You have hit the nail on the head Chuck, good and proper. Buy hey if a girl doesnt try then she doesnt ever know. I could easily make a food of myself but as long as i have fun trying thats ok I can live with looking like an idiot. I think we'll try Rally with my TM though, start slow. Oh Lord Oh Lord what on earth am I getting myself in to??
