Am I feeding my Fila too much?

Recently, I took Brutus to the vet. The vet that we saw that day claimed that Brutus was slightly over weight. He weighs 120 lbs. I dismissed what she said due to the fact that many vets/people are unfamiliar with the breed.

After that incident I had one friend that stated I was feeding him too much. I asked other friends opinions and they stated he was in great shape.

Brutus is 4 years old and I am feeding him 3 cups per feeding twice a day. He is very active and goes to the dog park on a regular basis. What are your opinions on how many cups I should be feeding him?

It depends on the calories in the food... if its store bought kibble, it should have a guide on the bag.

Also, without pictures... the vet is most likely going by the dogs waist and how many ribs you can or cannot see... so it really has nothing to do with the breed

If you can feel his ribs by lightly pressing on his sides, then he should be an okay weight.

It really does depend on what you're feeding him.

My Fila bitch weighs 150 lbs, but is good on 3 - 4 cups of EVO RM per day.

Please be EXTREMELY careful at the dog park. Our breed does NOT need any incidents of scaring the bejeebers out of someone at the park. We don't want to find ourselves with the same problems the Pit Bull has.
