Any advice on skin infections in mastiffs?

Would hugely appreciate any advice on skin infections in Mastiffs, Ben has what the 2 different vets have described as Pyoderma or skin infection and have treated him with steroid creams and antibiotics, both of which held the condition at bay or seemed to clear it almost completely but it just keeps coming back, particularly on his belly/groin area.

If anyone has experienced this with their beasties then any comments on what happened or how it was treated would be happily recieved.

"Pyoderma" just means that it makes puss. Wiki says it can be bacterial or autoimmune. If it's bacterial, it should be killable, it's just that they're entrenched and aren't giving up without a fight ... more aggressive antibiotics, perhaps?

you have to get to the root of the problem. make sure he's on a high quality food, if he is itchy it could be yeast as well in which case you can try putting him on probiotics like acidophilus which can be found at a health food store and you can try bathing him with an antifungal shampoo like selsun blue or nizerol. sometimes gold bond powder can help keep the skin dry as well.
