Bad owner for keeping our dogs leashed!

Haha! I'm sorry but I would have been PAINFULLY tempted to just smile...and ask which they would like me to release first, the one mastiff who will lunge for your face if you make eye contact, the Fila who disagrees with personal space being less than ten feet(even if she is all bark and show), or the dog aggressive shepherd. Then I'd have to follow with "honestly though, my boyfriend is a local patrol officer and I'm sure he'll be thrilled to hear that there was an unleashed dog and owner harassing me while we tried to enjoy a pack walk in a LEASH ONLY area."

This is why I can't wait until coco is bigger and has more authority!!!! Because she's 12 weeks old and a puppy she thought that I was like stopping her from learning stuff....(oh please) our staff is very friendly but he senses tension very quickly and after my hubby got attacked by a DDB we were looking after he's become very protective over us...To top it her staff tried to ATTACK coco she was like awww she's just protecting her stick!!!! I had my pups in the 'Off-leash' park yesterday and a woman pushing a pram walking a dog (furry lab) walks towards the gate, I said gimmi a minute and proceeded to put my mine on a lead as we were ready to leave for our walk and so they didn't get out the gate in the transition, and she opens the gate lets her dog in walks out shuts the gate and walks off with the kid in the pram.....the dog runs full pelt my way.....keeping in mind I'm holding 200lb in my hands, FORTUNATLY this dog was completely submissive and there for my Zach didn't have the issue he does when another dog runs my way and I was able to proceed without any problems, and proceed I did right over to the said imbecile and gave her an update on responsible dog owning and the possibility's of that very situation to ALL parties that could have gone oh ever so wrongly! umm yeah I lost my shit!

Thankfully I've never received that response for having my dogs on leash from the woefully ignorant dog owners of the world but I have had several people tell me that I don't deserve to own cats because I have chosen to not let them outside unsupervised. I've come to realize that for many people their belief in what is needed to be happy (if they were in the pet's paws) overrides what is safer and in some cases legal.

I would 200000% have too! Do people not realise how powerful these dogs can be and what damage they could inflict if they were to get into it!!! Good for you for giving her hell! So ignorant!! Hopefully for next time she'll actually think and listen!!!

Your dog runs away because they don't love you. I need to remember this one.

Hahaha I know definitely something I must have completely missed all my life, how could I....it's such an obvious reason...NOT!

Yup you said it all in one, she was like I treat my dog like my baby, I give her freedom, she comes back to me....no your dog has a serious fixation with whatever you throw for it and she's very into her fetch, But in England dogs can be off leads as long as they are controlled and obedient-which ziggy isn't so if we were to have the dog pound called on us because we couldn't get him back on the lead we would most likely have him taken away from us....is she going to pay the bill haha

Well I'm australian and here it is illegal not to have your dog on a leash while out in public unless it's an area approved like some dog beaches etc . It's the right thing to do anyway as even if u have a well trained dog how do you know somebody else's dog walking past is well trained etc atleast with a leash u can find it safer n easier for prevention of dog fights etc . Not to mention some dogs as well trained as you think they are may see a cat or another dog or kids playing etc get all excited and just take of across a busy road . In the perfect world it would be great all dogs could run around playing of leashes in public and been and knowing the road rules but in reality it's just not the case . This lady appears to of lost touch with the reality if we all listened to her way could you imagine how messy everything could end up .

Exactly! You are exactly right! I honestly wish we had those laws over here as there are some of the worst behaved dogs around this area I have ever seen! Ziggy has stolen kids balls and bats and it's all well and good paying for them or buying them a new one but we have ruined a families day out (this was when we first got him as we were told he's absolutely fine off a lead), and he's also run in front of a car and all the way into the city centre, it has been a wild ride with him as he will be fine the whole walk and then Unexpectedly run!! We could put so many people in danger by having him off the lead, not because he's aggressive but because he just goes off on one!! She had no idea and when I (stupidly) tried to explain that I just got the whole, 'we'll obviously you're too stuck up to spend time with your dog no wonder her runs away, get a handbag dog (looking me up and down) LOL' never had a small dog in my life only small dog I've had are 2 Staffies but they're not that small!

Also I don't want to worry you but been the owner of 2 bullmastiffs and my best mate of 2 bm you will have to always keep him or her on a leed while in public I'm not saying there aggressive dogs at all but they are very n I mean very protective dogs of there pack and if another dog or person comes running at you the bullmastiff will get right in between u and the other and I can tell you from several experiences (note my bm dogs never bite first) but they are incredibly powerfull when they go off and hard to pull of another dog it's not something you want to experience especially if your bm badly injures or kills another dog protecting you or family and than has to be out down etc would be the saddest day . They are not recommended for first time dog owners and need consistency with training while young as they r very stubborn lol dog breeders here always recommend not to socalize them public places other dogs unless your socializing them with dogs of no aggression or wanting to be dominant you should be fine but bm will not b dominated . They are the sweetest family dogs love the pack like no other and protect them with there life. As I said they arnt your average dog lol . They are the best cuddlers and will try n put a kiss on u lol . Not a needy breed of dog like our retriever totally different if I was getting attacked my retriever would be trying to get pats of my attacker during the attack lol . N retriever will constantly hang around all day for pats. Not the bm I mean they love pats but there always still on duty around you and your family . Hope some of my experiences give you bit of an idea of the bm if you didn't already know tho I'm sure you have done your research as I did before buying 2 of them . Always bm for me now ;-)

Haha I was mortified! I had to go around the whole city centre trying to find an exact replacement of a little girls foam baseball bat!! Nope I'm in the UK a land of 'dog lovers' and overly pampered pooches!!!! Their playing is so rough and because my staff has a high pain tolerance he doesn't even realise hahaha

So glad you've shared that, she already at 12 weeks old will NOT and I mean Not be dominated for the life of her and when another dog plays slightly rough with my staff she goes nuts trying to get Inbetween them already! That's why even though she's a pup il never let her off the lead, she met her second dog yesterday (had her since she was 7 weeks) but before I could even tell he wasn't a nice dog her hackles were up and she started barking which took me by surprise only for the owner to run over and stick her dog on a lead and say 'he's not the friendlies of dogs' to which I replied....why is he off a lead then? But she's so intuitive already! And like you say always on duty it's hilarious, any sound in the house she's up and investigating our staffie will literally not wake up for anything! And if anyone were to break in he'd probably make them a cup of tea!!! But coco is so Independent, she doesn't really like being touched or kissed haha our staff can't get enough of kisses! I'm smitten with the breed, I've grown up around protective, large breeds so it's nice to have one of my very own now!
