Before I get my first Dogue de Bordeaux...

The contract she gave me basically says if the puppy develops any incorrect able genetic defects by age 2, she would refund half of the pups selling price or I could have my pick of the next available litter. The pup comes with the first 3 sets of booster shots and dewormers. We got Kujo for 600, this is half price because his head will not grow to be show worthy. Her show dogs are 1,200.

When you guys talked with a breeder and committed to buying a puppy, how long did you have to wait? Did you have to be on a waiting list for a next litter or did you just go and get one?

Second question - And I mean no disrespect by this question - I just talked with a breeder in Washington (one of only 2 that I am aware of..) and she told me to expect to pay $2,000-$3,000. Now first, let me say that if that is what I had to pay, if every DDB in the world costed this much, I would pay it. But in reality, what exactly am I getting to pay that amount that I am not going to get if I bought a $1500 puppy? Know what I mean? I do not plan on showing dogs, I am only interested in a companion. I DO want a reputable breeder and I do want quality temperament, health, someone who knows what they are doing and values the process. But am I really going to be stooping "SOOO LOW" and get a horrid quality dog if I buy dog that does not cost $3,000? I would love input on this topic! And if you guys don't mind sharing how much your dogs costed, I would love to hear that as well. I have had alot of dogs but this is my first time every picking a breeder and doing the whole thing. All of my dogs have been rescues, pound puppies, strays, etc. up until now. I don't hardly know what I am doing!

Kujo: Thanks you so much for the info! I just saw it after I posted my last reply. Somehow I overlooked it the first time I checked. I am going to email her right now and if I don't hear back within a week I will call her!

right the cost of a good DDB is down to how good the blood line, a 1500 puppy with health checks and resisted, will be a healthy puppy but mite be from a line that has some thing that is not true to the breed standers, ie a health problem or just has not the breed standers for marking, there are so many little things that could be listed, you need to look at the blood line your puppy is from, see what health problems there have bin in that line, if there are none, then you are getting what you want, a healthy friend that mite be cheaper than a show quality line but you just want a friend, do your home work on the blood line your getting, ask the breeder what health problems they know about in the blood line, a good breeder will be happy to tell you of any problems they know about, good look in finding you puppy,
this might not help (we are in the uk) we payed £1250 in partnership with the breeder for gypsy(show quality) would have bin over £2500 but the breeder is hoping she will show well for the kennel, we will pay 1200 for dakota how fingers cross is show quality from the same dad as gypsy, but her mum has not bin shown that is the big diffrens and how fine the line is at the high end of the scale, a pet puppy from the same litter as gypsy would have bin £1500 to own out right, as you can see the pries is not just blood line but quality as well, do your home work and happy hunting

Thank you everyone for all of your help!

Kujo: I did email Candy Millam (thanks again!) and she replied so I am now in contact with her.

Has anyone heard of or gotten dogs from either Seraph Dogue de Bordeaux -or- Riverbend Bordeaux? As far as online searches, these are the only other 2 breeders in my state. I would love feedback from anyone who knows of them?

I love my baby Abe more than anything else. I had wanted one for years and when he came into our shelter I just had to bring him home. He's had a lot of medical issues along the way but he is the best dog I've ever had. He is so loving and always happy to see me or anyone we meet and just loves to be pet.

Everyone already posted pretty awesome and accurate responses to the original poster- but let me assure you this breed is amazing. He is everything and then some compared to other mastiff breeds to me. He easily, thoroughly and convincingly bounces between the rolls of your baby, your friend, and your guardian/protector within minutes. What you put in to him- you will get out of him ten fold. I will never do without one in my life...
