Blood in urine

So our 9 month old bullmastiff female has just been through her first heat. She could still be ovulating now, but she had stopped bleeding as far as I could tell a few days ago. Then, today when I took her out to go potty I noticed blood in her urine, or at least coming from that area. Any one with a dog in heat ever notice it where it seemed to be coming out then more then other times? I am worried that it could be a bladder infection or pyometra...no good no good.

I've never been through it. Blood in the urion is usually serious though, I'd think a check with the vet wouldn't be a bad idea.
Hope she turns out ok!

I am working on collecting a 1/4 c urine sample so far today.....i have about 2 tablespoons worth so far..(started at 6:30 am and now it is almost 11am) .lol. I am supposed to bring it in today so they can check it. Loki was a bit worried about why i had a pie pan with me outside in the first place...now i am using our soup ladle. Her urine definitely has plenty of blood in it :(

If you aren't able to catch it easily with something at home the clinic should have a catcher that is easier to use ;) The problem with heat cycles is some females bleed longer and some shorter and some heavy and some light so it is always difficult to tell if there is a UTI during a heat cycle if there are no other symptoms. Checking a sample though will tell you if there are bacteria and other things showing up that would indicate an infection. The easiest route to go through to start, despite all the fun of trying to catch a sample.

Oh yes, it was EXTREME amounts of fun. Lol. I brought a sample to my vet today and she definitely has a UTI and she also had crystals in her urine. She is now on antibiotics and I am supposed to take another urine sample in after she is through with the meds. They want to see if the crystals are due to her infection changing her urine's pH or if it is a secondary issue. A mastiff breeder told me that it is common for females to get a UTI in their first heat due to the amount of swelling in that area trapping bacteria...also she said that she gives her dogs craisins for snacks every day to help with the bladder issue.

We didnt' have a problem with the first heat but on one of the girls we did have a UTI at the same time, but it was easier to figure out as this female hates a mess and she can hold water like a camel but when she had the UTI she couldn't the first time she peed we knew something was up. I think most pharmacies or health food stores also carry capsules of cranberry juice (or the stuff in it that helps prevent UTIs)
