That sounds like a very focussed dog!
My old rottweiler used to be a seriously protective guard - but once you were in the house, he wouldn't spend 2 minutes with you!
He used to just lie in front of the door in the hallway hoping for intruders to "make his day"
If you called him in, he'd look at you, look around and then leave as if to say "what did you call me for, I'm busy guarding the door"
On 2 occasions I remember, he came into the front room and just rested his head on my knee.
Both times we took him straight to the vet - it was gastro enteritis one time and something else serious the other time.
I can't remember the detail as it was a long time ago now.
We have a boerboel pup coming to us in the New Year and it will be interesting to see how we get on with a more affectionate beast
