Bump on foot. Help please!

Boris (6 mont old EM) got a very small bump on the side of his foot about 3 weeks ago. It wasn't growing or bothering him at all, so we decided to keep an eye on it and leave it alone for the time being. We just got back from vacation and it has now grown to about the size of a pencil eraser, is red and obviously bothering him (he keeps biting at it and has rubbed the hair off). We are trying to get into the vet today, but wanted to se if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks for any advice!!!image.jpg

It is a cyst. My old Kerry Blue Terrier had them on his leg and side. They prone to return though. Take him to the vet and see what they say. In the meantime, put a warm and wet towel on it and keep on changing it. It may pop, but do not be alarmed; may actually be a good thing.

Better to have it pop on it's own rather than pay through the nose to have it removed, only to have it very likely return again.

I know I should not be giving medical advice, and it is not a comfortable thing to do, but it has to be popped and drained. If it's allowed to stay longer, it will only become infected and larger, and will cause more problems and pain down the road. Take your dog to a vet to get it removed, as you may aggravate it if you attempt to remove it on your own. And next time you notice one developing, catch it before it can become the size this one is now.

I would have done what you have done, but now it is time for the Vet to take a look.

Thank you for the advice! We weren't able to get a vet appointment until Tuesday. :( it has gotten a little larger and is draining a little. I am trying to get him to soak it and keeping antibiotic ointment on it for now.

I would not mess with it until you know exactly what you are dealing with. There are some lumps that should not be messed with as it could make matters worse.

Agree with Sadies Mom, have it check out. Some lumps can be cysts and others can be malignant. 3 weeks is a short time for a bump to grow that fast.
