Can I add Yogurt to Dry dog food?

Hello all,

I have adopted a Mastiff mix puppy(Simba), 2 weeks ago and currently I am feeding him the "Simply Nourish- Salmon & Sweet Potato" puppy food, he is slow eater and I tend to add little water or Yogurt. When I add the Yogurt, he really likes it and finishes everything. Currently I am feeding him 3 times a day. Is it ok to add yogurt to every meal or am I making him a picky eater?

Welcome. I occasionally will add about a tablespoon or two of plain greek yogurt to my dog's kibble, he loves it and it's good for their digestion (also helps if you have to give him medication because you can put the pills in the yogurt and he slurps them right up). I also mentioned it to my cousin when their lab was having problems with her paws, she would lick them all the time and the fur was red and smelled like corn chips (a good sign of yeast), they started giving her yogurt every day and it cleared up her paws. Just make sure it's plain unsweetened yogurt.

Be prepared that once you add toppers, i.e. yogurt, meat, coconut oil, olive oil, they will expect it at every meal. I created the monster with Titan.

Also recommend to change your puppy to large breed adult food. Puppy food can have very high calcium which promotes fast growth. Slow and steady growth is better for a mastiff puppy.

I second the recommendation to change food. As far as yogurt goes, yes it might create a picky eater. I don't have that problem. Ajax eats everything, toppers, or no toppers. (Knock on wood!) But it has created problems for others. Try changing food first. He might like it better, and you would not have to add anything. I also soak the kibble a bit in warm water before giving it to him. This has been known to help some picky eaters as well.
