yep, I can help you with that. a cherry eye tack is when they push the gland back in and "stitch" it back in place...I beleive this has a 50/50 chance of sucess...my dog's cherry eye came right back after 2 weeks and then i had it removed...removal is just that, they remove the tear gland (if Im not mistaken they got 2 more). you then have a 50/50 chance that your dog will develop dry eye (my dog hasnt in 2 yrs). dry is is just that...the dog doesnt get sufficient tears in its eyes so it starts to dry out...a tear producing solution once a week in the eye is usually enough. with those odds I would go with the removal but if the tack were to work it would be better...it is up to you...the tack is more money as well.
Good luck, I know it looks bad but it is an easy fix.

I always recommend tacking first. If it doesn't work, then consider 'wacking' or removing the gland. (makes it easy to remember tack or wack!) You can also remove some of gland, as if to de bulk it, as opposed to removing the entire thing. This will hopefully avoid dry eye issues. I have seen dry eye disease dogs that have to have a lot more than a flush once a week to keep the eyes from becoming extremely painful. This is typically associated with small dogs, not giant breeds that had cherry eye surgery. However, after seeing lots and lots of dogs suffering from dry eye, yes suffering, I would definitely consider tacking before removal.
