Chicken heads

1 more raw question, hope Smart_family and all the ones that know about nutrition can advise.

Guy I know was telling me how much his Neapolitan loves chicken heads. His logic -quite convincing to me- is that heads contain a combo of bone, muscle (that thing chicken have up and down their heads), brain, eyes, meat and blood. But he had trouble finding heads, I don't, my bud owns a chicken farm.

Some other people from forums where telling that heads aren't that good and is mean to feed that to a dog.

Both Juno and Thor loved them above liver and hearth in the same bowl, I couldn't believe it, It was easy to notice how much they enjoyed chewing heads; Like kids eating candy.

Does anyone else feeds heads? What's your thoughts on chicken heads? Only a reward or is good as food?

I've never done it myself, but there is a school of raw feeders who do what's called prey-model raw, which generally means the whole animal is given as a meal, to be eaten as the dog sees fit and over a length of time. I've seen pics and read the story of at least one who raises their own chickens, then kills them and feeds them to their dogs, feather, heads, feet, everything. I've also heard of people doing this with young lambs (which, apparently, gives "felted" poops when the wool is digested).
Like I say, haven't tried it myself and I'd be worried about obstructions with dogs who eat quickly or don't chew.

I haven't heard of many people doing it besides as Marrowshard said prey-model raw but even then I've heard of more people feeding pigs heads or lamb heads than chicken heads. I too would be worried about an obstruction. Maybe some of the other raw feeders have some advice in regards to this topic?

My concerns to you would be: not a whole diet of heads, way to bony when fed alone or frequently with no meat. Fed as your bone source a few times a week would be no problem.

Secondly: heads fed alone could be dangerous to a large dog, especially if you have a gulper.

I feed heads attached to the body for the most part. And have never had a problem as they have to chew them off, so I know the are chewed.

Awesome answers and great pointers Thank you!

I was dead worried about Thor choking so pulled a chair and a beer to the kennels just to sit and supervise while they eat, and I had to get another 2 beers! Both dogs took their time chewing the heads.

You know those Brash candies that used to be sold on USA walmarts? Don't know the name but where white, creamy and had some colored jelly gum? How kids would put the candy in their mouth, keep it, chew it, keep it, chew it? That's what both did, as I'd they wanted to get all the flavor out of them before eating it. It was fun to watch.

So conclusion: has been done, its not bad and feed heads only on "bonesday" meal.

Honest Thank you guys!

Still early and I usually don't think English until I have breakfast and tea...

"Awesome replies" not "awesome answers".

And just remembered what felt means, like felt armor... Hahaha maybe if the poop is felt and cute my girls won't "ewwwwww" when they see it! Prolly will work with feathers too, but i have seen Thor eat whole doves and not a single feather came out!

Lamb, pig and cow are not cheap since they are used for some Mexican folkloric dishes, idk pig, I'll check that.

Assuming the dog CHEWS them, heads are fine, though I'm not sure they should be a meal in and of themselves as I've not looked into the nutrition aspect closely. I do know of quite a few raw feeders who feed them as treats to their dogs of various sizes. Chicken, duck, and various animals large and small. Donno in Mexico, but in the USA they can be often found in the Asian markets for reasonable prices.
