I have nothing against TM's MM lol. I think they are wonderful different dogs. I am always out and about and my boyfriend has this thing that all dogs should be social and nice to people and not try to eat them when they approach. PFFFT what is his deal? lol JK. But in all seriousness they are not suited for me and my life.

I was kidding of course and you are right TM's are not for everybody, and its good IMO that so far they have remained pretty much an unwanted or unknown and unfashionable breed.

We are currently trying to decide on what breed we will add next to our family. We were trying to rescue a TM from the rescue in California, but female puppies have a long waiting list it seems. We still have our application in with the hope that something comes up, but are talking about other options if not.

Hell, we dont even have a list :( I need to go through yours again lol.

There is one here in the US. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tibetan-Mastiff-Rescue-Inc/109492215422 They seem to actually come into puppies a lot from all the Puppymills out in the area with the breed becoming more popular. I stalk their Facebook creepily.

I really want a female TM as they are everything to me a female dog should be. Independent thinking, protective, loyal and stubborn :p We do not have any small animals and would like to round out our family with 2 people and 2 dogs. I am home often during the day and alone working in the yard or around the house and my fiance is a military contractor. We could have to move any given year to a place not of our ... preference and having a guardian breed is a trait we really like. We very rarely have guests. I have always had male dogs who bonded very strongly, but never female dogs. I have heard incredibly positive things about the bond that TMs make with their people.

Of course the obligatory, they are beautiful and fluffy. As well as a companion for us and Claymore.

bAWWWWWWWW.... SO ADORABLE!!! I have always liked this breed but my boyfriend don't like the look of them. Right now he likes the Tosa and the Newfie and of course the Lab. We are no where near a puppy stage yet but we are always thinking.

The bond is something you cant explain until you experience it...its distant and aloof but strong and...hard to explain. Guests are OK as long as you socialise and your TM understands that what you say goes...but don't expect guests to be able to just knock and walk thru the door. They are also outrageously clever, I mean a really smart and thinking dog. A problem solver, a thinker, and very quick and easy to train. They are so clever that you need to stay on your toes and find them games to play all the time. Good luck with your hunt, I hope you find your girl.

Boyfriend and I were talking last night and I believe the 2 breeds we will be looking into even more are the Tosa Inu (strong attraction to the breed came from trying to find out what Barron could be mixed with) and than the Newfoundland (the kid friendly and water aspect is very important to us). The Lab (unfortunately) is coming in a VERY close 3rd.....stupid boyfriend and holding on to that breed. BLargh.

My parents are Lab addicts. We've had as many as three at home, and my mom convinced her brother to get two down in Arizona that she's thinking about claiming since he doesn't pay much attention to them. Our two at home were trained for Search and Rescue. The adults are lazy when we're lazy, but when we're active and outside, they're extremely active. Sometimes to the detriment of their health, particularly in terms of hips.

On the upside, Mira's turning them into mastiff addicts. As an EM/Fila/Newf cross, she's wonderful. She definitely has what I call the "Newfie lean" and the predilection for water, but short fur. I'd definitely consider a Newf for a next dog, or a straight EM/Newf cross with short hair as a pup.

We have an old Lab in the house right now and though he can be a pain in the but with his prey drive we love him. I know a lot of people with Labs that are under the 2 year mark and they are psychotic I just can't imagine THAT kind of energy running around for 2-3 years before they mellow out. lol. I absolutely love the Newfs but the down fall is the hair and I have never owned anything with long hair. However I can get past that because of the kid safe with little to no training and the love of water. I am in LOVE with Mastiffs to and I do like the rarer breed and there is a lot of personality traits I love in the Tosa's.

OH NO!!! I went like 10 steps back in narrowing my breed list down. I thought the Bernese Mountain dogs were finally off the list due to health issues and hair lol. Well I got to meet one yesterday at the lake... BIG MISTAKE! He was a sweet heart. Well my view of a Sweet heart. Wants to be pet but doesn't go out of his way to be pet. Reserved. I actually met him because he had wondered over from a campsite to the convenience store and the lake. He was just kinda hanging out for 5 min and than a lady walked out of the convenience store and said " Did you come to walk me home Mister?" and he started to jump around and get all happy. It was quite adorable. He knew where his owner was and was a little disapproving of being left at the campsite and wanted to find her and did.

Matt also seemed to like him and his breed. So who knows what's going to happen now.
