Cost Effective/w benefits when switching to raw

Nutcase, my cats are like that, the dogs? Not so much, if its edible, they'll eat it. I do have to rotate the meat type, cause they get bored, but not like that.

My dogs are the same way, if it's edible they'll eat. Rocco even considers eating solar lights. I found two crunched up ones this morning :(

I just hate to waste meat because he's not eating it. The stuff that he won't eat I've been giving to the cats outside. Just seems like a waste. Seems his only likes are chicken and beef.

If you were close I'd come steal that venison....

Oak Hill, Apollo likes the plastic drinking "glasses", I don't dare leave one with in reach or there will be pieces everywhere....

HA and I'd be more than happy to give it to Apollo. I hope my future pup isn't this picky.......

I just went through this with my Bulldog. He was being a real jerk about chicken. I changed him out to pork for the base and a week later switched him back to chicken. It took him 2 days to warm up to the chicken again but once he did it was like the floodgates were opened.

It was driving me crazy that he would not eat the perfectly good food in front of him. The change was all that I needed to do, and also I remembered what the one person who got me onto raw feeding told me when my Presa did not eat for 4 days initially.

"Joe, you are not starving your dogs.. You have plenty of food in front of them, they are just not eating either because they don't know what to do with it (and must learn by default) or they know but would rather kibble and are testing you to see if you'll breakdown"

Remembering this tid-bit of info really helped me.

I can't remember when but at one point before Thor did this to me, I gave him the tough love. However I did cave because he was loosing weight. I believe this was when he was younger though.....so it was hard to keep weight on him. I'm going to try again with the ground deer. Today I deboned some leg quarters for him to get the meat as his stools were chalky also gave him some beef.

what do you mean by chalky stools? that's what jovo's looked like today, not sure what to think of that. i was concerned it was undigested chicken neck from this morning.

Tess is taking to the raw like a champ.

Editing to add: I was going to take a picture of the poo and post it but thought better of it.

Your Welcome.

to much bone. It can cause the dog to become constipated. Either reduce the bone content a bit or increase the meat content a bit, or both.

Yeap Ruth that is why I deboned the chicken and just gave him the meat. We had a storm last night so I couldn't take him out to do his business. However this morning it was worse constipated and what little he could push out chalky. Is chicken not a good meat source? Like I said I deboned the quarters removing all bones and left nothing but meat, plus the steak I had for him. He had an all meat dinner last night.

New to raw or even transitioning back, your dog's stomach acid isn't very high yet. This is one of the reasons you will see a variance in poop. Like Ruth said you can help control this by adding bone to runny poop or meat to chalky poop.

I'd give him another day of less bome, it's probly taking a little extra time to work through his system.

Ok, this morning I brought some ground turkey, ground beef, as well as the debonded chicken. For dinner I am going to do the same. To see if it helps him. I check for his stools twice today and each time I took him out nothing. Hope I didn't do too much "damage" in there.

Raw is so much cheaper for us than kibble was..... I have an ad on Craigslist asking for unwanted meat when folks clean out their freezers & such, a few months back I about 50 lbs of free venison and about 10 days ago I got a score of 3 freezers full of meat!!! Will prob. feed my dogs for 2 months easily & it was all FREE! I will have to buy some organ but that will be next to nothing! ;) Oh I also got about 50 lbs of meat from someone else too (FREE) 40 lbs of wild hog & 2 whole skinned squirrels!

^ Wow nice find! I'm too worried about people doing something to the meat so I would only look at craigslist for dealers.

Thor went potty this morning nothing good news is that he's not constimpated......bad news it was water..........

I know Thor has been raw before but I would start as if he is new to it. I would do chicken for just 2 weeks to get his system back up. Cane is my picky boy but usually by the 3rd time I try to give him something new he will start eating it. Finally ate a duck head this morning.

So far Ive not met anyone via CL that I got an odd feeling from, also went to their homes & saw the meat go from their personal fridges/freezers into my van, IF Im ever in doubt it would just get trashed. Via my ad I have found 2 different guys who break down deer, hog, domestic pigs & cows ...and are suppose to call me when they have left overs from orders that the folks dont want! If it pans out & they call that will be awesome! One of the guys told me he'd slaughter & break down wild hogs for me $1/lb ..but w/ the 3 freezer score not going to need meet for a while...

I just don't want him to get tired of the food, so I try to keep his interests up. Right now he seems to love the chicken quarters deboned or not. I will do that and see if its helps.

That's awesome! I might give it a try, right now I am working with a meat wholesaler to get me the best deals on meat. I thought about asking this restaurant I live next too they specialize in pig BBQ.
