I would just like to hear anyone's experiences with Danes around livestock, and especially horses. I have a pit bull-mix that can jog next to a trotting horse for miles, and am wondering how Danes would do in this environment!
Hmm... how much "work" would you be expecting the Dane to do on the farm??
I can see a Dane "supervising" work on the farm... and it would probably be more than happy to join you on a jaunt with the horses - but might also prefer lounging in the shade if you go for too long of a hike.
I don't see them as being a problem around livestock - they're normally laid back enough and with some guardian background, so should be able to coexist peacefully just fine.
thanks for the responses! I do not expect any dog I get to do much "work" regarding the animals. No herding or livestock guarding overnight. Just a breed who can coexist and enjoys a good run through the woods!
