Bailey's cousin dogs and playmates are an eight year old 110 pound Doberman and an 18 month old 80 lb Rottie. Both have health issues. A Internet search shows Doberman as the healthier by comparison. Bella the Rottie just had alc/acl? operation - huge cost - told to be prepared for other leg to go. You wouldn't know she'd been laid up four months ago. She is fiercely protective. Goes wild when anyone passes outside the 6 foot high fence. She's extremely protective of her family/pack. Don't touch my daughter in anger, you will loose an appendage, but sweet, loving funny good to my pup, but PLAYS ROUGH, bowls my baby head-over-heels every few minutes. Bailey our CC gives as good as she gets and Never Gives Up. No retreat, No surrender, even though she's less than half her size. The Rottie seems confused, and has taken to sitting on her to get a break from the play.
The Dobbie, he's rough, but he doesn't knock her over with his shoulder, he Punches with his Nose! more thoughtful, more strategic...less chasing, less mouthing, but somehow more intimidating, he's like a coiled snake.
The Dobbie guards whatever house he's in loudly and aggressively. He would kill to protect any of his human/pet pack (this includes the cat's and the guinea pigs), But behind all the teeth and snarls, you can see the intelligence, you can see the wheels turning.
In a dangerous situation I'd want both. One is a battle tank with crushing jaws, the other is a Ninja with a mouth full of razors. Together they are unstoppable. Bailey has two great teachers. She's a lucky pup.
