Don't let your dogs roam!

Its illegal in some states for dogs to harry some game animals, including deer. And most of those states specifically allow for the dog to be shot on sight if caught doing so.

No one should allow their dog to roam, in the country or in the city. There is a black pomerian that roams the park I go to with Titan. I've called animal control twice but the dog continues to show up at the park. A lady told me at the park that this dog's owner lives near the park and it has roamed the park for 5 years. :( She said AC picks the dog up and calls her and she picks her up.

Lots of peeps in the country subscribe to SSS: Shoot, shovel, shut up and it seems like at least half of them let their dogs roam. Drives me crazy. I keep mine contained and couldn't imagine shooting a dog. I'm supposed to be killing coyotes (predators) for my wildlife exemption but I can't even do that as they are too much like dogs!

I had some ridiculously incorrigible roommates who let their dog run free despite us asking multiple times to keep her leashed. There was a man down the street who had offered both to call the cops or shoot her, and they still wouldn't listen. We had to kick them out lest my beagle get out with her (they would leave our gate open) and get into serious trouble.

When I take my dogs out to the woods I have them leashed until I find that it is safe to release them for free roam. I am constantly alert for noises or voices and leash them right away if I think anyone or anything is coming.

A few years back my mothers Chow/Husky mix and Pharaoh dog got loose and wandered onto a cow pasture. The land owner shot the chow mix and it cost my mom a bundle to get her fixed up. I did confront the land owner and he stated that the dog often harassed his cattle. I knew for a fact that this had not happened before but that his cows had wandered to my moms several times before. So I told him tit for tat, I almost made it to my car and he offered to pay 80% of our vet costs if I was to forget what happened, because the loss of couple cows was nothing compared to paying the vet bill. I told him I would check with my mom. She was reluctant but agreed. The dog died a year later from a clot that had formed near her gun shot injury that broke free. I sometimes think I should get me some beef.

Been on both ends of the issue.
People should control there pets, and others should not be so quick to shot.

Have been on both ends as well. We live on a dairy, cows are our livelihood and a good milker is worth ALOT. Being so rural we have a huggggge problem with animal dumps. If I can catch the dog I will take it to the shelter, if I can't and it is chasing cows which can lead very easily to broken legs which means euthanizing there is not a whole lot of choice. Call animal control to be told its in our rights to take care of it...click. We have a huge coyote problem and in bad years rabies is rampant. I will use every means necessary to avoid it but sometimes you just can't. If I thought the local law would follow it up I'd install more security cameras to try and catch the dumpers, but they won't.

Speaking of animals roaming, the idiots across the street from me are at it again.....I honestly don't know how come someone HASN'T shot their older dog yet, they admitted to me that she'll kill chickens given a chance, and there are several people on the road who have chickens....

I used to have guineas, that's why I don't anymore. Between drop offs and coyotes it just became impossible.

Believe me it has been considered and as recently as last week, when my mom called and said one of his cows was walking in front of her house. If I had been off work and able to get there in time, who knows.

Mike, I would be eating A LOT of steak.
