Finally Figured it Out...

Greetings everyone. I've been a registered member for a week and couldn't figure out how to post in this sub-forum. After multiple PMs to moderators with no replies I just responded to a thread and it let me post it. So I figured I would give it another try here and viola. I'm able to post. So, just a little about myself. I'm new to the breed. I'm married with two pre-teen daughters and soon to adopt our 2 year old nephew. We also have one on the way due in Oct. My wife and I have always had pups even when we lived @ home. Up until about a month ago we had a total of three. One yellow lab, one Jack Russell, and a pug. We had to put our lab down in January due to a common lab illness with the hips and a tumor. The Jack Russell was put down about a month ago due to a traumatic injury. Both were about 14/16 years old. The Jack Russell was younger and my sole baby. It is still painful til this day. So we now just have the pug. He is more my wife's and oldest daughters pup then the rest of the family. I am currently looking for a female Cane Corso. I have been researching the breed about two and a half weeks now. @ first I didn't want another dog. But coming home to no pup of mine coming up to me to greet me is just as hard as putting one down. I feel I have lost my balance in life as a pup is always happy to see you know matter the time of day, weather, or even your own current mood. Wife and kids are different. LoL After explaining that to the wife she understand why I have changed my mind and started looking. I also told her the we would most likely not get a puppy until fall or near the end of the year. Most of the breeders I've spoken to have many deposits on two litters which may even put us into early next year. I really don't want to wait that long. However, I am searching for the right breeder to work with. I have talked to three @ the moment and hoping to hear back from three to four others over the next few days. I do plan to have her fixed as I don't want to breed her and deal with the blood in the house during her heat cycle. I'm still trying to figure out the best time to get her fix when I get a puppy. I've talked to our vet and she told us that a maxuim of a year she recommends but some breeders tell us 18 months and up to 24 months to make sure the puppies get to full size. Our family is very active and we are looking for a active breed that is able and willing to go with us camping, surf fishing, hiking, walks, sledding, outdoor sports events, and even just for a ride. Then of course I want something that will protect my family when I'm not home working late or overnight @ the firehouse for duty shifts. I am willing to take any training they offer for the best out of the breed as well as have it learn when it needs to protect the family and not. I have been looking over the forum the last week and really like what I see here. Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to talking and learning from each of you...

Welcome to the forum. I'd wait to get her fixed until after 18_24 months as you've been advised. A vet will tell you different. I love the ccs we have 3 all males they are so addictive lol
