Surprisingly enough they are very comfortable. Something like an egg crate foam inside.

Our poor dog now has her own queen sized memory foam mattress... she loved it on our bed frame, and I hated it (too firm for me), so now it's hers! She's so neglected. can you tell?

Our Bordeaux loves her mattress like this, but she still loves to sleep with me. She switches from my bed to hers half way through the night and I live the queen bed idea!
