Hello Everyone! My name is Angela! My boyfriend and I have a 4 month old Neapolitan Mastiff. We got her at 8 weeks. Her name is Leah. She is such a sweetheart. Does anyone else have one of these types? I love her!

This is gross/random question but her vagina sometime smells like iron... does anyone know what this could be? She is fixed so I know it is not her period. Also, she sometimes gets this snot looking discharge hanging from her after she goes pee. I am wondering if it could be because she is a puppy and has recently been vaccinated and taken worm medication? I am not sure. It is getting better if anything, so I have not taken her to get checked yet, but every so often I get a wif.

Welcome. what a beautiful pup. It sounds like she has a bacterial infection. I would take her to the vet and get it checked out.

Also can I ask why you got her spayed so young?

Well, I know the average age to get your puppy spayed is 6-9 months but our vet said she was perfectly healthy and that we could go ahead with the procedure... So we did!

I would suspect vaginitis, something some females get more often than others. but have her checked out with your vet to be sure.

What's done is done as far as her being spayed but in case there is another large/giant breed in your future the best age to generally fix one is 18 mths to 24 mths (later if you can hold).

Thank you for the info about getting her fixed at a later age. Why is that? I would love to hear any information you can supply me with.
