Got the call from the vets with more bad news

So the vet called today and said Honor cant be mange dipped or taken out, Shes 8mths old and according to him she is veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy aggressive!!!! aid you will need to do the mange baths and such n such at home. According to him she is ready to kill anything and everything that gets near her.
1. she has never shown teeth to me or my wife
2. she has been socialised around people alot as well as other dogs her whole entire 8mth life
3. when we brought her into the vets yesterday she was calm happy to see the vets even during her check up, skin scrapping, and butt testing for temp

so when he said her infections and mange is so bad that he will need to keep her a few days I get a call this a.m. saying come pick her up we cant get near her

now. They where open on saturday and refused to take her (I understand they get busy) but anyone who knows mange it gets BAD OVERNITE!!!! so come monday she was in such rough shape we look like the assholes for not getting her help. We tried!!

Now onto the bill. It was almost 400.00 for a overnite stay with antiobiotics.. I about s!@# myself. I said look im broke and this n that and she has been misdiagnosed 3 times at the vets. I explained that I will have to be paying for the meds, doing the bats myself since she is "soooooo agressive" and im on round 4 of visits. This is the only good part. I walked out paying 100.00

So now on ive learned to not trust vets. First vet ever gave her all her shots and said this puppy is healthy as anything. For all her shots and vet visit it was 240.00
second visit she was dioagonsed with demodex mange from having a weak immune system and prescribed ivermectin for two weeks. That visit was 125.00
Third visit after the two weeks was up-now said it wasnt demodex mange it was a allergy to foods. Now cortizone shot with other meds and check up was 200.00
Todays visit was just hell. we have over 600.00 dollars in vet bills all within a short time frame of each diffrent vet saying......no that person was wrong its this. im tired of it. Just did the mange dip bath myself and she is in bad, bad, bad shape. im about to have a nervous breakdown

So moral of story. Some people say go get second opinions, well it seems that second and third opinions still cant do crap for your dog. Sorry about the rant n rave as I love to see other dogs on here and the owners storys. Im just pissed, stressed and depressed at what more poor puppy has gone through and im spending money like candy.

Well, I can't help much with mange vs food allergy, vs whatever. I do have to note that mange due to a lowered immune system isn't unusual, especially in a pup, and a change in homes and getting a bunch of shots will affect the immune system. So the mange diagnosis doesn't surprise me.

As for aggression with the vet, some dogs do just get aggressive (in defensive/fear) when their owner isn't around. I recently had this problem with my smaller dog. He was fine going to the vets, the techs could take him out back without me and he was fine. I dropped him off for his neuter and apparently he freaked at them and nearly bit a couple techs. I would highly recommend that you require all handling by the vets/techs be done in your presence from now on, if they ask why explain that you had a bad experience with a previous vet where she supposedly "became aggressive" but as long as you're present she's fine. And then make sure thats the truth. Get her used to being handled, and laid down for handling, by you, and in your presence by people you trust.

I'm really sorry to hear this. It is possible that her being scared and in pain, with you not being there to comfort her she did become aggressive. I really hope you guys can figure something out to get her some relief.

I know im going to be slaughtered for even suggesting this and I am by no means saying you should do it but when I was a kid on the farm we coated mange dogs in burnt motor oil. I don't know if this is what cured it but mange went away. Just a thought... regardless I hope your dog gets better..

To make it clear, I would not put burnt motor oil on my boy unless I exhausted every other option without success. The primary reason is because he is so spoiled he's crying and scratching at the door after being outside alone for ten minutes. That being said, I have seen with my eyes numerous times when I was young this working on mange dogs, these were mind you, farm dogs, never stepped inside a house, most never stepped foot in a vet office. This was when it wasnt uncommon to take a dog out back and "put him down", the old way, if that tells you anything. As horrible as that sounds, it's the way things were back then. Of course now, my grandfather whom I seen take the walk to put down a few old dogs, has a little dog thatsleeps in his bed and goes to the vet at the first sign of being sick, so yes, times have changed. I was by no means suggesting that you put burnt motor oil on your dogs, merely stating what I have seen work in the past.

If it were my dog now I would probably use a food grade diamotaceous earth liberally a couple of times daily. This is completely nontoxic non chemical and will not harm your dog or even your children were they to come in contact or even ingest it. It might be worth a shot.

I understand thats the way things were done back then, I've seen my dad and my grandad take dogs on that 'walk' myself. But now a days I dont think its worth even suggesting putting motor grade oil on a dog. Some people would go ahead and do it without even thinking of the horrible outcome that could happen, not that the OP is one of those people but we live in a strange world full of strange people, some that would do this.

I would just go to a board certified Dermatologist Vet

Thats without a doubt your best bet.

My girl had a little of dm. After consulting my vet I went on amazon and got goodwinol ointment and smeared it on her once a day and in a few weeks it got better. Actually it got worse before it got better.

I feel so bad for her, just imagine being ichy all over and in a place where your not use to with people you dont know! She was scared and doesnt feel good. I'd be cranky too!!! Try to do the dip your self and reassure her that shes a good girl, and find a new vet! They should know better, i sware, some look to sqeeze every dime you have out its unbelievable.

Good luck

I am sorry that things aren't getting better :( I was advised to not do the baths and to just use the advantage multi so we never tried the dip with our dogs and it is really harsh.

I know there was another corso on here that was rescued and I think had a form of mange (not sure which type) but if someone has a better memory than me and can find the post you might want to message the new owner and see what they did as the dog was looking good last time we saw pics.
