Puppy Beaten To Death in Front of Kids!

LAKE CITY, Fla. -- A 26-year-old Lake City man was recently arrested after investigators said he beat a puppy to death in the presence of two children.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, Jerry Barker Jr. became enraged when an 8-month-old puppy with which two young boys were playing nipped at one of the children. Investigators said Barker began to kick and beat the puppy relentlessly before tying up the puppy and then beating it with a shovel, a nail-studded board and a garden hose.

The sheriff's office said Barker tied the puppy to a tree and attacked it until it was dead. They said he then dug a hole in the yard and buried the dead animal.

According to the sheriff's office, Barker tried to get the two boys to take part in the beating of the puppy but the children refused.

Investigators said Barker lived with the children and he is the boyfriend of their mother. Both children have been referred for counseling.

Barker was arrested on charges of felony animal cruelty and child abuse (no bodily harm). He is being held in the Columbia County Detention Facility without bond.

Ok...I don't know what's worse...the fact that the kids had to witness this horrific event or that someone this uncaring and callous has already reproduced!

WTF?!?!?!

In a way, I think I'm glad the puppy died because the thought of what he would have viewed children and men as after he recovered is just heart-breaking. Puppies play. They use their mouths as hands. *shakes head*

I can't even comprehend this nor do I want to try.
