He will probably be a little tired when home. Small amounts of food and water until he has bounced back. If he has a cone then make sure it stays clean and if you are home take it off a little bit during the day to give him a break. If there are stitches they might give you some cream to apply to aid in healing. The bulk of anything you will probably have to do will take place after the stitches out to help them stand if your vet doesn't post.

We researched and debated the ear cropping very thoroughly. It was not an easy decision to make. We made the pro-con list and decided it was best for us and this particular dog. Just got the call from the vet and everything went great. I pick him up at 4:00. Here is his last pic with the floppy ears:

It is a personal decision. If you prefer or want them done never feel you need to justify that to anyone. I know we all try and explain things out to people but in the end it is what I chose to do and if they don't like it then fine... if they do then fine to.

Mary well said!

Besides this topic is about OP getting their pup's ear done. Not a cropping debate. There's plenty of topics on those already.

I was just asking.... why do they crop ears? not being judgemental or anything?? is that breed usually cropped?

I apologize Dogue-Dude, its hard to tell via internet. Its a controversial subject obviously, there are folks who believe this right should be taken away. The decision should be left to the puppy buyer.

As for the crop ears for the CC yes the breed is usually cropped. Along with many other working breeds. For working breeds ears are cropped for the dogs "protection" but for most pet owners its only cosmetic purposes.

Corsi were historically cropped as per their standard. These days you can chose either way (well in some places anyways) and both are correct.

Hank is curled up in his mommy's arms now. He has a whole Vet's office full of new admirers. He is recovering nicely, slightly worse for the wear, but still our Hank.

no apology needed... you'll have to excuse my naiveness on this subject.. I have owned bullmastiffs, french mastiffs and boxers in the past..on occasion, I have seen boxers with their ears done and think it looks great if done correctly.. I wasnt aware this was so common in the mastiff line?? My dogues or dogs have always been pets to our family so its something I'm really not that familiar with..

No need that's why this forum is here:) Neos, CC's, Bandogs, German Mastiff's ( Great danes), are the usual breeds to have the ears done.

Dogo Argentinos and Presa Canarios also typically get their ears cropped but they are not all that common in the U.S.

Benadryl him up! He will not scratch as bad and will rest! My CC did great and ears didn't have to be cleaned until the vet taped them a second time. How much does he weigh? That depends on Mg of course.

Having Jax cropped was a hard decision for us. He had such nice floppy ears! But in the end we decided to do it for many reasons. When we went to pick him up he looked absolutely pitiful! I felt like such a bad momma! But in the end I am glad we did it. He and Parker play so rough sometimes I'm afraid his ear would have been ripped up if we had decided to keep them! Jax did have one ear that didn't want to stand properly. I learned that "less is more" when it comes to taping. Glad to hear it went well! Can't wait to see pics of the new look :)
