It works just fine. Problem is the government wanted to start play political games..
The Herbert Hoover approach. How did that work out?

Just to dispel the myth about indigent care. They get care if it is life or death at that very moment. They do not get treatment for treatable diseases. What they get is comfort after the disease has ravaged their body, in order to die in peace.

So, people can stop spouting that nonsense because it is totally false. If you try to get treatment for treatable cancer, you cannot. You cannot get treatment until your organs are shut down. By then it is too late.
And they fully treat for cancer and COPD and AIDS other diseases, Josh?
I have also discussed the ACA in this thread, so i am not sure where the not wanting to discuss it comment came from. I also discussed the myriad of other topics brought up in the thread, because that is usually how internet threads go, they morph and evolve into other areas. Minimum wage was touched on, corporate activties, etc, as they affect how a person can afford insurance, etc.
What is the number one reason for people filing for bankruptcy in the US?
I was curious as to what you opinion on the ACA was...for/against? I didn't recall you saying one way or the other so I wanted to ask adnn as you replied, it would appear that you are not for it, right?
I think the main problem I see with it is the health care/insurance is a business to y'all. Here it's all taken care of by the govt. We all pay the gov't.
So if we get sick, we go to doc. Office bills govt, we never see a bill. if the doc determines we need surgery for whatever, we get it. they bill govt. we never see the bill. They dont argue with the docs opinions either, if its determined we need it, we get it. How soon it happens sometimes depends on the urgency, but it's never going to come out of our own pocket, further than the monthly insurance amount.
Its not a perfect system, but its a heckuva lot better than the haves having health care and the have nots struggling.
If the US Gov't were to take this on, with all Americans over age of 18 paying into it, then the rates wouldn't have to be as high, given how many millions and millions of you there are. when I heard the US was doing this, I was of the understanding your govt would be taking on the insurance policies, if that makes sense?
I just dont believe health insurance should be something for CEO's to get fat off of when people can't afford or are refused health care that can make their lives easier.

Healthcare-Insurance is a business, it always has been.. they aren't "evil" and they aren't your "daddy". You pay in and you get benefits for it, in the event something happens. It's a service just like anything else.
I don't want the government dictating to the doctor what I can and can't have done, there's no way if the government controls healthcare, you can guaranteed anything will be paid for (notice the debt we are currently in)? The great dictator already has been called on his lie's, why would you believe anything else he says? Just like every other politician.. lies. Government has no place in the healthcare business.
Furthermore business make money, and CEO's make money to ensure they make money.. just the same as everything else in the private sector.
What Im saying....in Canada, the doctor determines what needs to be done, the government does not say yes we'll cover this, no we wont cover that. If the doctor says do it, it gets done.
Yes businesses make money, but your health ins works and they make money if they dont have to pay out ...so the more procedures they can deny, more loopholes they can find to make you ineligible for this or that, the more money they make. In my opinion, this is WRONG. If you need surgery, you should be able to receive it, at least in a first world country such as yours and mine. that's why i agree with govt run and subsidized.
and you know what else....i have never spoken to a single solitary Canadian who would rather have the US system of health care to what we have. Not one. I'd rather have your geography, would love to live somewhere it is never winter. but i wouldn't give up our health care for yours to do that. and that's saying alot.
hockey, health care and at this moment in time the CND dollar The Hippocratic Oath is what stops Dr's from taking advantage of the health care system. Why run unneeded tests to boost the amount they will be paid, there is no shortage of patients and no shortage of invoices. The biggest flaw in our system is the bureaucracy that sucks the money away from where it is needed and into the pockets of those who "manage" the system. It is the same as any business, there are always those CEO's that will ensure they get their 8 million dollar bonus However politicians in our country know that if those are not dealt with then the general public will let it be known at election time. We Canadians are a nice people, friendly. polite... However there are a few things you do not mess with; our health care, our hockey and our beerOnly thing that Canada does better than the US is play hockey, GO AV'S.. I might add.

Absolutely we want your weather lol. Most that head down do so for 6 months minus a day and then return back to Canada for summers to maintain their health careYall are alright in my book.. I see a good number heading down 65south to the beach.. it's just funny I never see anyone from the beach headed north to retire. Must not be all that bad, down here that is
Sorry but I had to respond to this as I sit here in Canada with my universal health care Dogman, yes in some cases in Canada there are long waits. Maybe 2 years for a hip replacement IF it is not an emergency. Not being able to walk however, is and would be considered an emergency and the wait time would be dramatically cut down. So you would get the hip replacement, the physiotherapy and care needed after that replacement and you would owe nothing... Maybe there is a wait for non emergency procedures, and maybe those with the money will go to the states and pay to avoid that wait, that being said it is the same wait for everyone. Going on 3 years ago my husband got very sick, was hospitalised for close to 2 weeks and was on a home IV for months. We didn't lose our home, we didn't go bankrupt. Enough said. The funny thing about those forums that tell the horrors of the Canadian Health Care System is it is primarily Americans talking about how bad it is here in Canada. I pay around 90$ a month for my insurance, which covers 80% of my families prescriptions, dental and eyewear, my husband has the same meaning we are 100% covered for any and all visits to the pharmacy, dentist, eye Dr... as well as Physiotherapists, Chiropractors and I believe each of us has 500$/per person per year for massage. I am proud of my Country's Health Care, I am over joyed to have it. I understand the cost is upsetting, but I have never understood the American refusal of a universal health care plan. It seems, at the risk of pissing a few off here, that there is an ingrained fear that taking care of all citizens by allowing equal rights to health care will somehow tear the fabric of your society. Most other civilized country's have a health care system in place, and they are not crumbling due to it. Just my 2 cents
