I had some people give me a hard time when I got Stella. They said it was unethical for me to buy her from a breeder instead of getting a dog from a shelter. I told them that I wanted a dog with a health and temperament guarantee. I wanted to know that the dam and sire were healthy. I wanted to pay the breeder for all the work and dedication towards the breed. I wanted the money to go to ethical breeders that actually care about the health of the dogs.

After I presented the facts to people about why it is important to support the ETHICAL breeders I received a lot more support. Even my boyfriend now regrets not getting his bulldog from a breeder.

I think it great when people rescue a dog, but I don't think it in unethical to support breeders. I think one day I will get a dog from a rescue, but for my first dog I wanted more of a guarantee regarding health and temperament.

This reminds me of a lady who runs a rescue here in Oklahoma. Real piece of work. Bashes and hates on people for wanting full breed dogs while shelter animals die yet her rescue is overrun with GSDs and toy breeds with high adoption fees. She has this state wrapped around her finger but I see right through her. My friend use to transport for her until she watched her turn down a pit mix mother and her 12 newborn pups saying " I wont make my money back or extra off dogs like this" I rescue but if I ever came across something that needed me I could not turn away from it. These animal loving "rescue" people are becoming annoying. They say they are doing something then hold huge adoption events when they get overrun letting anyone and everyone take a dog unchecked if they have the cash. How is that different from less desirable breeders?

That's exactly what I do not understand. How certain purebred rescues can justify charging someone $500+ for an adoption fee. I can understand recovering some of the cost of vaccinating & spaying/neutering the animal but I think it's kind of ridiculous to charge a person & I have seen it, along the lines of an $800 adoption fee. You pay that much for a dog that's not guaranteed in temperament & health. And that's what some people want in their households. Something that is guaranteed to a certain extent. That's young enough to make the dog what you want it. Some people just can't take the chance with an older dog.

This same lady just paid thousands to remove a boston terriers penis because it was inverted and stuck in his insides. She could have saved so many dogs for the price of that operation. Yes most of her dogs have at least a 200 adoption fee. She will take in small breed mutts but only if they have that designer breed appeal. I loathe this woman. Everyone in this area thinks she is a saint and donate dog food and supplies like crazy. I guarantee with what she is donated and how much she makes at her monthly adoption events she is actually profiting. In oklahoma there are low cost spay and neuter clinics everywhere now. She needs to quit posting info about her Hawaii vacations on facebook. Did I mention I loathe this woman? Don't get me started about a rescue who just amputated a mastiff pups leg

As a vet tech I have to hear the same thing bc I will have a litter ever so often. But I'll hear them "why do you breed? There are so many homeless dogs? So many dogs die daily? Etc etc"

My answer:
I breed bc I want my next generation, I make sure if the person can not keep I take back
Why not go after the person who doesn't have registered dogs, who don't sterilize there pets, who allow to breeds to breed etc etc

In the end I say take away breeders you take away your jobs
No more health testing (money maker)
Less amount of pups walking in
Less amount of responsible owners
List goes on!!

Sad site thanks for sharing

In the unrealistic event everyone everywhere stopped breeding dogs would go extinct. These rescuers love dogs so much why is their end goal to not have dogs exist. The fanatical ones like this rate right up there with people I see on hoarders. They are looney #%&$*+$ tunes and I wish their parents had not bred. I had a surprise litter from a dog I just rescued and believe me I feel awful about it, but it's done and I have to make the best out of the situation. Pretty much any rescuer would of spayed the dog regardless of being pregnant and considered it saintly. I considered it killing puppies. Most of them are hypocrits. Most of them are profiting as much as byb'ers. As for the vegetarians I have not come across to many legitimate ones either. Part timers or half assers. Lacto Ovo ? WTF poser commercial dairy cows and chickens are put through more misery than the beef cows instant death. I preety much just hate humans in general. Obvious much? Spay and neuter wothless humans and animals will regulate themselves as all other problems with the world.

I was in rescue for years. I have rescued and rehabilitated everything from chihuahuas and chinese crested to great danes. I had a strict spay and neuter policy and was intolerant to anyone who did not. In turn I have had sick, old and crazy dogs my entire life. I still believe in spay and neuter for most animals but I will never again take on an animal that I do not know the genetics and parentage. I will also never again spay or neuter an animal before it is medically good for them. We spayed and neutered so young in rescue. Most of us didn't know any better but we damn well should have. Hank is my first papered, pedigreed dog. He is also my first healthy dog. He is also the first breed of dog I have fallen so in love with that I will never be without one in my pack. I like the idea of rescuing animals that need a fair shake and a good home, but I like the idea of having the companion I want just as much.

If A-holes didn't buy dogs and get rid of them there wouldn't be much of a problem. The facebook page should be "I hate A-holes"

Of course there are exceptions. Not everyone that has given up a dog is an a-hole. But it's gotta be 80%.

I clicked the link, read the page title, closed the link. I may get boared and go on over to get some post deleted. I do love pissing in some folks cheerios. I've always adopted dogs. Fact is, if no one buys a dog from a breeder, byb, or just a dude who's dog slipped up and got prego, where exactly do those dogs end up? In a shelter... If I'm expected to pay 500 bucks for a mutt they found on the street, I might as well buy it right out some dudes back yard for 100 bucks. I got a "friend" who runs a rescue. She charged another friend 500 bucks for a mastiff mix ahahahaha. Scraggly ass boxer mix is what he got and so sorry it pisses everytime any one comes in the house or tries to pet it. Now I would be absolutly pissed over this. Before we go Kona we went to the shelter. They refused to allow us to adopt a 8wk old puppy cause the puppy might play rough with my son. My intention was a puppy that would do just that, play rough. Rescues are just like christians or muslims or jewish folk to me.... You got your beliefs, and for the sake of your own mental stability, keep that shit to your self cause I'm a hurt your feelings. Rescues are awesome. But dont use it to force feed your BS to the world just like a religion

Me too!
Doing rescue for so long,I've have had both rescues and bought pure-breeds, but mostly rescues. I now have a bunch of lil old rescue rejects, most pretty dang healthy.
There will always be whack job extreme people in any cause. There is a group that is pro mill breeders, can't think of the name right now. They post ad's in my groomers magazines. Their big line "If there is no pet dogs who will you groom!!??". Like if the crap ass puppy mills got shut down there would be no good dog breeders or no one breeding dogs. So the pendulum always swings both ways and the dogs are stuck in the middle.

That same sentiment is spread in the humane society world with great vigor.

All you can do is help educate the one's who have a little reasoning ability..

Remember your local Humane society is not the "Humane society of America", which is just as huge and evil as PETA.
Your local shelters are run independently.

Lol MsAcer, Mine are all the rejects too. Bring me your sick, degenerate and dying dogs... My vet called to congratulate me on having a real dog that isn't shaking it's way through death's door for the first time ever, and he's been my vet for ten years.
