Hi everyone, I am new to the forum, and it seems great!

I have Mastiff that is 6 months old and his name is Zeus. I love him very much and he is a great dog, and is very intelligent and learns quickly. He is fully house trained, sits, stays, shakes, and lays down, but for some reason, while i'm at work i cannot keep him from chewing up our couch. he has destroyed the cushion twice now and i fear cushion number 2 is coming soon. Does anyone have any ideas to help correct this behavior?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks! :D

You might want to try crate training him. The reason he's doing this is because he's bored that you're not home and also because he's still young. Have patience.

Yes sorry about your couch :-( your doggy must be lonely when your gone. I can tell you most everyone has to deal with this, damage control. Doggy run outside if the weather is nice. Lots of luck!

good post , 6 months is still very young for mastiffs, they mature super slow, and I would crate him while you are away. I also have an English mastiff names zeus!

I agree by putting him in a crate. Its unfortunate he will be in there for a while but it will save you $$$$$$. My French ( Quesne ) destroyed my pool pump by chewing the power cord, he chewed up my verizon phone and that's just a few things. He still a puupy but he's learning.

I have to also agree with crate training. It not only keeps her safe but keeps your things safe too. I have one large crate which Lillie is using now but the Golden still gets in there when its empty to nap. I put her in when I go to work and at night. I can trust her out for just a short trip (like to get gas).
But we are trying to build the trust.

i agree with the crate training. i use it for all my dogs when i am gone. they each have a seperate crate. its not cruel and they will learn to enjoy it. my one mastiff, doesnt mind going in her crate at all. she likes her "me" time. i also put my two mastiff puppies in thier crate while i am sleeping at night.
