Hello my name is brie and I have a 16wk old bordeaux names Moose! We are currently in tallahassee, Fl. :)

I have a couple of question for the forum, the first one would be that i just brought my pup to the vet where he was diagnose with demodex. They gave me ivermectin for the next 30 days. I met a lady after my vet visit that suggested that I used a flea and tick spray and blot it on the bald spots( which are only on the eyebrows right now) because she said the meds was hard on the liver. I was wondering if any one else use this, or any other suggestions!

I am also wondering when is a good time to switch my puppy off of puppy food the vet said 2 yr but we my parents have 2 english mastiff who took them off around 16wks for them to grow slower. I have heard alot of numbers but always early never as late as 2 yrs!

Last question is my pup is showing signs of being on the dominate protective side, barks at strangers and always dominate when playing with my moms 14 wk old bordeaux, very vocal. I have been socializing him as much as possible, pet stores and dog parks. He is very good with people but will nip at other dogs who get in his face, and it takes him awhile to warm up. I was just wondering if anyone has and suggestions or ideas for me to use when I take him on outings.:D

Thank you guys so much for reading all of this and any advice that you have for me!

Welcome, we took my DDB/Bullmastiff cross off the puppy food at 1 yr, would have done it at about 9months but he wa arescue who'd been starved and we wanted to ensure he got some of the benefits of the puppy food first.

As for the Ivermectin I have heard nothing bad about it but there are probably more knowledgable people out their than me on this subject.

Hello and welcome!

Invermectin is a common treatment for demodectic mange.

As for the food thing, everyone has a different opinion on when to start on adult food. We feed our dogs raw...

I would suggest that you make an appointment with a dog trainer/behaviorist to get your pup going on the right path from an early age :)

We have been feeding raw for several years now and the dogs have done extremely well. Since the switch we have not looked back. We follow the prey model diet, which is 80% meat, 10% bone and 10% organ. Have not had any issues. Our dogs are thriving on this diet.

Since your baby is fighting of demodectic mange, I'd say a well balanced raw diet would be extremely good!

Large breed puppies should NEVER be on regular puppy food. Better that they be on an all stages adult type food or large breed puppy food.

Looking forward to hearing that your pup's back in perfect health -- and seeing some photos :)

Yeah like I been hearing so many positive things about the raw, but its kinda overwhelming at first with all the info out there. I knew that vet's number of 2 yrs was way of, she said its because they need more calcium, but I thought there suppose to grow as slow as possible. At least know I wasnt going crazy!!
