With 2 dogs you have to pretty much live outside. We had the same problem when we brought our 2 male rotties home. One would act like he would have to pee but the other was fine so we would take one out and then come back in to find the other leaving a puddle. We found that we had to become almost crazy with the number of times we had them out and we bought crates which helped with the house breaking. They didn't like to soil where they slept so when in their crates would whine to get out. When they were out we kept and eye out all the time...if they had a drink they went out, if they stopped playing to sniff they went out, if they ate something they went out, if they got up from a nap they went out. We spent a lot more time outside then in for their first few weeks home.

I would crate train to help with the peeing in the house at night and would increase the number of times you are taking them out at night. To also help them make it through the night put up the water after 7 or 8 pm so that they are filling up just before bed time.

Ok I have had a really bad experience with crate training. I lost 3 dogs in house fire while they where in their crates so I have always had a fear since then, but do you think that I would only have to crate them at night? I am starting to go absolutley crazy with this because Mya is so good. I am afraid that Mya will start to go in the house as well.

The last time that they go out at night is at 11pm. Should it be later? We never had this problem with our bordeaux...

The crate doesn't have to be a permanent thing just something to help teach them to hold it. I can understand the experience making you nervous to attempt it again but you can also try a small room like a laundry room. Keep in mind the more room the dog has to move around, allows them to pee at one end and sleep at the other. Once you have them house broken and provided you trust them to not get into anything I don't see there being a problem to not staying in a kennel. There are many people that use crates for just the purpose of house breaking and then the dogs get free run of the house once they can be trusted not to mess. If the area isn't cleaned up well I would worry the smell might linger causing them to think that area is the one to soil because of the smells.

I never liked the idea of crate training until I bought my first English Bulldog years ago and the breeders crate trained and swore by it. I have crate trained ever since. Lillie was fully house broke by the time she turned 7 months. I can trust her not to go in the house. I still put her in her crate at night to keep the puppy in her from chewing on things. She will go in there and lay down thru out the day. My golden still thinks that is her crate so they take turns sleeping in it during the day. I also don't let them have ascess to "free" water until they are housebroke. I give them water when then eat and put water down thru out the day but don't leave it in the bowl all day until they can be trusted.

Ok.that makes alot of sense. When I got my bordeaux at 8 weeks she was amazing to train, but this one english is hard. Her sister is already trained and so I didn't have any of these issues, but this site is amazing. Thank you so much for your help. When you found her getting thirsty would you give her a drink? I was also thinking about putting her water outside so when she went out to the bathroom it is up by the door on the deck?

No it doesn't have to be later that you take her out but maybe until she is a little older you might want to set an alarm to get you up at 2 or 3 to take them out for a quick pee and then pop them back in their kennels for the rest of the night. If she is doing well after a couple nights at the 2 or 3 then increase the time you leave them in their kennels 15 minutes as long as they are doing well until they are making it through the whole night. Some dogs train easier then others and it is always easier to train one then 2 at the same time lol.

Think the cleaner you are using is fine. We used vinegar and water to help neutralize the smell some. Just make sure that you clean the area well and should be good. By the time she has already made the mess telling her no is too late. If you catch her in the act then you can say a loud no or make a sharp noise to stop her and take her outside immediately. The crate shouldn't be used as a punishment otherwise she will start to hate it. It should be her safe place to sleep and relax that is all her own.

When they act thirsty I do give her water and then we go outside. While the weather was warm I have a water dish on the back deck. Lillie was so much easier to housebreak than my Golden. Good luck!! I gave her a drink before her last time out, I think 6pm is a little early to take away the water, just my opinion though.

I would take the water away around 8 if you are doing last potty break at 11pm. Making sure to take them out 3 to 4 times to make sure they have drained their bladder as much as possible.
