How do you feed your Filas?

So.. last friday my "big boy" was urgently opereted.
He was puking from the morning.. i took him to vet in the late afternoon and ECO showed a bad intestinal situation and something strange in it.

He had to be operated and they found a ROPE in his intestin. Fortunately it doesn't stay there too long so they can remove it withouth have to cut a part of intestin.
Basically the dog will be like new.

BUT i'm really scared now.. couse he keeps eating everyting he founds.. and maybe next time he could not be so "lucky".

Another poit of concern is the little one looks like really really hungry too. I found him trying to eat rocks and wood... he often wake up in the middle of the night barking couse he is hungry (if you feed him he goes back to sleep.. if not he keeps barking till morning).

Now.. i was using Golden Eagle Holystic Puppy large to feed them (http://www.goldeneaglepetfoods.com/products-for-dogs/holistic-large-giant-breed-puppy-23-13) .. but i changed it becouse i tought it could be too low in nutrients.

Now i'm using Brit Care (http://www.brit-petfood.com/food-for-dogs/brit-care-junior-large-breed-lamb-rice/5) but actually it doesn't change so much: Dogs are still both really hungry.

The big one (7 months x 43 kilos) is eathing 270g of Brit care 3 times a day .. and 200g milk in the morning.. and 200g beef meet in the evening.

The little one (4 months 23 kilos) is eating same things.. but only 180g Brit Care each time.

I'm concerned about give them too many food (gastric torsion) .. but i can't see them so hungry.. it's a pain.. and it's dangerous too if they eat shit here and there.

So i wondeing..how much food do u use for yours Filas.. what kind.. and if they are hungry too.. thank you.

I feed raw. I feel there is a less change of bloat. They get fed twice a day. My male fila is about 170 lbs and gets 3 pounds of meat a day. The best thing you can do is break them of the habit of eating things they are not supposed to. Hard work but it might save their life.

Delilah has a bad habit of eating everything. Rocks sticks wood. Anything the kids leave laying. Interestingly enough she doesn't mess with my stuff.

Well mine are not destructives dog... i mean they dont steal everyting they found and destroy it..they dont care about shoes..they dont destroy ur cellphone if u leave it unguarded....

They simply eat shits they found on ground.... rocks, wood, ropes (....i m still asking myself where the hell does he find a rope...).

That s why i think they are very hungry...this is not about bite or chew... this is about gobble everything they can to satisfy hunger....

My vet told me that sometimes dogs will eat outside stuff because their diet may be lacking in some minerals.

So, I tried adding some garlic salt and the outside eating thing decreased a lot.

My filas used to eat raw, but the female decided to get picky, so we started cooking their chicken and hamburger, mix in some grated cheese and veggies and they seem to thrive.

Alek, I am so happy that your boy is okay - that is very scary ! It is good that your vet was able to see what was causing his problem ! I feed my dogs raw - Cachoeira(Cassie) , the sister to your boy, gets about 1-2# chicken or pork & liver in the morning and another 1-2# at night . She will keep eating as much as I give her - but I feel she is at a good weight for her size right now - she eats as much as my 130 pound male does. As she slows down growing I will reduce the amount she gets to keep her not too heavy.

Sometimes a supplement like NUPRO or Solid Gold can help dogs who eat stuff like yours is - but I think it is quite typical of young dogs in general for them to chew up and ingest stuff. I know Cassie chews up fallen branches all the time and leaves all the little pieces on the patio.
The food you are using looks typical for commercial diets.

I had the same thing happen. My fila Simone ate everything she could get in her mouth. She got stopped up with yard mulch. Luckliy it worked out where she was OK. Every vet has a different view on missing minerals linked to the deisre to eat crazy stuff. My vet explained it like this. We can pick things up with our hands to investigate what it is. We can see it, touch it and smell it. The dog on the other hand can only pick it up to investigate with his mouth. Once it is in his mouth and if it does not taste horrible the next logical thing is to swallow for the dog. Thus, they can eat just about anything. I saw a dog at the vet filled up with mineral oil front and back and pass just about a whole pair of fruit of the looms. He passed it in pieces. The elastic band came out in one long strand. Dogs are just plain crazy. Human babies costantly put things in their mouth but we tend to watch them better. LOL. S
