  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Howdy from Texas!

Howdy, I have always liked English Mastiffs and am beginning serious considerations in getting one. In the coming weeks and months I plan on asking as many questions I can in order to prepare my girlfriend, her dog, and myself for the possible addition of an EM to our happy home. I won't bother asking questions here since this is the introduction thread, so I offer a hearty hello to all the fine people on this forum! Please be patient with any of the many(I'm sure sometimes simple questions) I might ask, I am only trying to pick y'all's brains for the betterment of the dog and the household.

A little about myself: I am a pretty active person, I enjoy playing my drums, playing my guitar, mountain biking, rock climbing, walking, hiking, kite-jumping, and pretty much anything that involves the outdoors, music, or both! I just recently purchased a TV for the first time since I left my parents house at 18. My girlfriend and I live together in a pretty darn big apartment and we have her dog (a blue-tick coonhound mix) who goes to doggy day-care during the week. I am surprisingly chilled-out for an adrenaline nut ;)

I also am really into home-brewing, so if you ever need advice on how to brew your own beer or are interested in some of my recipes/processes feel free to hit me up!

Hi and welcome!
No question is a simple question and brain picking is a definite must in these breeds!
Can't wait to see your baby once you get him/her :D

Welcome to the board! Ask away with the questions there are lots on here with good experience to help you with the decision making process.

Thank you @BSCC, they already have answered a lot of questions! @DVB'sMom, north or south TX? Also, any advice on how your pretty pups beat the heat would be most appreciated. @STEVSH, I would miss it too, it absolutely beautiful there! That wouldn't be a bad place to take a road trip after I get the pup and she gets a little older. I really appreciate how friendly everyone is here, thank y'all!

North TX - DFW! Thanks for compliments on my pups! I have found that they and the other large breeds that I have had (Akita & Rottweiler) tolerated the heat much better than I ever would have anticipated. I have less than limited experience with EMs as my two babies died at only a few weeks of age a couple of months ago. Since I know that is the breed you're considering, some of the EM parents would probably be more helpful if there are notable differences in heat tolerance.

As you know, we endured a long, hot summer here and my Bella and I kept up our early evening walking routine the entire time. It was just a matter of keeping her hydrated and healthy and the cool tile floors when we got home didn't hurt! :D

Most impressive you kept up evening walks. This summer was brutal. Do the DFW folks ever get together?

Wow, reading that quote made me realize just how illiterate I look when I type on my I-pad. ;) I've sent a deposit off to the breeder but she is hugely communication challenged so I don't have any pics yet. She keeps promising them and I keep hoping. *sigh*
