There are days when I hate people too. Them pulling stunts like that can make this one of them.
Well...today's walk was bad, but I don't entirely blame Franklin for that.
We had just made it to the end of our street. There were no people out, everything was going well. We were about to turn around to complete our lap when this fool runs (literally runs) out his front door yelling at me. I don't need to tell you how Franklin reacted to that. He went crazy. Turns out, the reason he was trying to get my attention was to ask me what kind of dog I have and if I would be willing to wait until he brought out his pit bull to see how he would react to a bigger dog. The whole time I was struggling with Franklin, the guy just stood there smiling. I think, and I may be wrong, but I think the guy was hoping my Franklin would attack, or maybe that his dog would attack Franklin. I hate people. I think I'm going to wait until I get him a prong collar before we head out again. Then we will start from scratch and see where we are.
Hector, in TX we don't mess with pepper spray. We pack... If that happened to me, I would just pull my gun out and tell him to get the f*ck back in his house.

I love my prong collar Xena walks and obeys 100 times better with it.If pulling continues to be an issue, I would try a prong collar. What I like about using it as you can also correct with it on your walks, so if Franklin barks at a person or a kid you can give a correction. I tell my dogs "No" and give a correction - for me, leave it is reserved for their toys or other things (bones etc). I know not everyone is familiar with prong collars, and one commented they didn't like them - but on our Mastiff it's worked wonders. It's designed not to collapse all the way like a choker collar and you don't have to put it on tight, but it has really helped me in healing training. Mastiffs, especially EMs have so much muscle in their neck that a prong is a safe option because it will cause them to back off without hurting them. The 'pinch' mimmicks a momma dogs bite when used as correction and I am sure now, when I go out walking that my dog won't lunge. If she tries too, she gets corrected and (kind funny) immediately sits.
Other harnesses and leaders are great, but every dog is different - and if the pulling continues, it doesn't hurt to try.
We got up early this morning and sat outside to watch the people and work on "leave it". Wouldn't you know it...not one person walked by.
Last night I saw saw the two ladies who Franklin went after a few nights ago. Now they walk with a huge stick. I was sad at first, until they saw me and gave me the worst go to hell looks I have ever received. Then I wanted to take their stick away and smack them with it. Lol

Good advice!I feel ya. As I said on another thread my neighbors are terrified of Zeek. I found that I was letting their fear become my fear.
I had a heart to heart with a friend of mine. Maybe her words to me will also help to boost you.
She reminded me that it's my responsibility to work on Zeek. PERIOD. What other people think and feel about Zeek and I is none of my business. (I found that very liberating.) Our dogs are young (Franklin and Zeek), they are just starting to come onto their own, they are learning and growing and this is a process that will take years. Be patient, remember to laugh, and just flow with it.
Again, I think you're doing great!

That makes perfect sense.
So does that mean I can't smack them with their stick?
