Injury Help Needed

We only have 2 vets in the area. What if the antibiotics don't work in the 6 months to a year and all the hard tissue is still there? Then what? He cant use the leg as it is and its hindering the other hind leg due to the extra weight of the bad one. To me it seems cruel to wait that long for something that might work. This whole month of him being on all the medications hasn't improved anything.
Biopsy and cultures should be done to determine whether the drugs are working. It is what I had done to determine the effectiveness. I don't know if it is the same for infections like your boy's. But the vet should have answers?

Hector is absolutely right. A culture should have been done already. If it hasn't been, then you need to tell them you want it done. I wouldn't mess around guessing whether it's the right antibiotic. That's dangerous to your boy and it's costly to you.

Cultures and blood work have been done. Blood work showed nothing and i'll find out about the culture results on Monday when he sees the original vet. And i live in Carlsbad NM

in my opinion the dog needs on iv antibiotics a couple weeks ago , possibly more than one kind , as someone who has spent a large portion of my lifes earnings on antibiotics for animals , clindamycin is close to worthless , clavamox better , but not much ........ i'm thinking the hard tissue you feel has nothing to do with the body protecting the plate , the body does not protect inert foreign objects , it rejects them , the hardness is tissue inflammation , cellulitis ...... imo , there is a lot of things to be tried before amputation . it does come down to amputation sometimes , not always , it is a last resort ....... given the right antibiotic , the pain and swelling will subside , the atrophy you see is not as bad as it appears ........ surgically opening the wound , draining it , putting antibiotics right in it , they got antibiotic beads they can implant right in the wound , debriding any dead tissue ..... but I guarantee you that dog needs to be on iv antibiotics , something good , maybe more than one type ........... does he have a fever ? I would assume not given the bloodwork came back good ............

I am out of my depth here, please listen to Jakesmom and Marke. Jakesmom has walked the walk, we were all praying feverishly for her boy...it was very touch and go. I was in tears for their struggle...her boy is so precious. Marke, too, has suffered watching his prize pups suffer. They have been where you are and they have suffered with their pups...try everything before you take the last step.

I am praying for you and your boy...you and your family are in my prayers.
