Introducing a new Mastiff

Hi,

I have a very spoiled 13 month old male mastiff and just bought an 8 week old female for him. Can anybody tell a good way to introduce them and get them used to one another? My male mastiff is being a little aggressive, is this normal? Any ideas? I really could use some advise from somone who has had this experience...

Desperately seeking advice,

There is no "correct" way to train anything.... there are ways that work for some and not for others...

I would introduce them in a park/or just somewhere besides your property. That way the pups won’t have a scuffle over territory.

And instead of walking them up to each other, which could cause conflict. Take them for a walk with a little distance between... walk one in front of the other, then change directions. That way the dogs can smell each other and get used to the idea of having another dog present. Then once they are a little tired, take a break and let them get a little closer.... just do this several times... just remember to be patient

Also make sure you are giving your current pup just as much attention as the new one.... so he doesnt feel you are neglecting him. Also give them their own space so they dont have to deal with each other constantly.

2 pups means twice the work... I would have waited for that second one...

Hope this helps!

Welcome!

Why don't you post a separate thread about this in the discussions? You'll get more feedback that way :)
