Introducing EM pup to dog and not getting parvo

Hi, I will soon be the owner of a male english mastiff pup. He will be mine in 7 weeks time :) At the moment he is 1 week old and weighs in at 1kg. I also own a 4 year old male (desexed) Neo x AmStaffie.

What is the best way to introduce the pup to my current dog and would it be ok to let the pup hang out with my current dog or could he get parvo and all of that? My current dog is vaccinated but needs a booster in a few weeks time

Welcome!

I always let my pups around my dogs that were vaccinated, its walking him in areas where a lot of dogs go or introducing him to dogs that you dont know about that becomes the problem, for example a dog park or even letting him walk around in a pet store. If you want to socialized him in a pet store either carry him or put him in a cart with a towel

Your pup should have had it's first shot so should be fine with your dog.
Recent studies have shown that the vaccines last up to 7 years, and many vets have switched to a 3 year vaccine, as we tend to over vaccinate our pets.
I took Cribs out in our front yard, and for little walks down the street. She now has her second round of shots, so although we are not heading out to any dog parks I do take her out to more low traffic areas.
My vet and I were just talking about this, there are way more under-socialized dogs that eventually end up in shelters then pups who get parvo. I am not saying it doesn't happen and I am still cautious, but is important to get them out young.
As for the introduction, because the pup is too young to take out for a walk, I introduce in the house with my dogs on leash. With pups there is not usually too many problems, dogs know they are babies. The leash is just in case the dogs (my boxer ;) ) get too excited.
Good luck and I can't wait to see pictures.
