Is it just me that gets this?

Hi everyone,

Whenever I'm out on walks with Murphy, more often than not, I'll get a:

'Wow, he's huge. He's a Neapolitan, isn't he?'

Is it just me that gets this? I'm gonna have to come up with a sarcastic enough response. I was on a bit of a group walk with a few other walkers yesterday, and I think 1/2 of them asked me, sequentially, 'is he one of them Neapolitan Mastiffs?' When they were stood right next to each other .

Had the same with a dog groomer a fortnight ago who was grooming a dog down the street from us??

Not even like they look anything alike!

The two I seem to get most regularly from people that try to guess Kryten's breed instead of just asking are Newfoundlander and Rottweiler. I've come to realize that for some people they will just say what is the biggest breed they know thinking he must be that. I know Kryten is dark but he doesn't have either tan points or fluffy fur.

Newfoundlands & Rotts are my number one choices for a dog excluding DDBs.

It's not even like DDBs are uncommon in my area too, there's at least 7 I know of that live within a 20 minute walk from us. I think the majority of people that know about the Neo breed, have seen Fang from Harry Potter :lolbangtable:

To be honest, I would almost be grateful if more people asked me if Mateo was a Neo-- at least it's in the mastiff family!

I get asked, on a daily basis, if he is a Chinese Shar-Pei. Yep, every day. Despite the fact that he weighs 100 pounds more than the average Shar-pei...their structure is totally different. But, people see wrinkles and that's that...

I have also gotten:

~ St. Bernard
~ Neo
~ Tibetan Mastiff
~ Leonberger
~ Chow Chow
~ Bulldog
~ Great Dane
~ Newfoundland
~ Bloodhound
~ Cane Corso
~ Bullmastiff (a lot)
~ Shar-Pei, Shar-Pei, Shar-Pei...!

Also: lion and bear :)

Yeah, I used to get Shar Pei quite a lot when he was 3-6 months old, I think it'd offend him quite a lot now, my sister has a Shar Pei who used to 'wrestle' with him when he was younger because they're a similar age. Let's just say he's not allowed over anymore..

I don't even think people in my area have heard of Cane Corso, Leonberger or Tibetan Mastiff, and Newfoundland are referred to as 'them black ones that look like bears', same with Saints, they're just known as Beethoven :scared2:

I agree with 100% of the people that say male DDB in particular look like lions. I think they do! Maybe lionesses though.

Even the way they walk is very "lion-like" in my opinion. :)

Yeah, that clinches it for me. I think it's their shoulders, especially when they're about to pounce on something, or if Murphy sees a bird he does the same thing.. He would make a terrible hunting dog :lolbangtable:
