kirkland for puppy?

Hi folks! We will be bringing home a new english mastiff pup in a few weeks. I have been researching for many hours on what to feed the little guy. I have narrowed it down to TOTW or Kirkland. Kirkland brand (costco) is rated highly on dog food advisor and the price is great! This makes it very apealing. What do you think? Also, is there a need for the puppy versions of either of these? Thanks for your opinions.

I feed Kirkland and have no problems. My breeder also feeds Kirkland and has never had any issues with it either. I always fed the Adult to my pup...then I switched over to the grain free as the regular kirkland made his poop a little soft.

I also feed my BM Kirkland, the salmon and sweet potato (grain free), it's in the blue bag. We originally had him on Orijen large breed puppy, but he didn't do well on that (hot spots, fur missing and runny poops), we switched at our breeders suggestion when he was about 9 months old and he has done fantastic with the Kirkland brand.

We have used the kirkland (mixed as I like to have have the protein content up a bit more than this food) as well as Nature's Domain all without any issue.

Interesting, we were on Kirkland for about a year and had runny poop then switched to Orijen and his poop is awesome. Guess it really depends on each pup!

I use natures domain as well for my pup. I read somewhere that its pretty close to totw from a composition standpoint

Not exactly. It's got less meat based protein in it compared to TOTW.

So does that mean its not even close or pretty close?

I believe the only similarity is that it is manufactured by Diamond.
It's definitely the best food for its price and size.
The only reason I didn't buy it again is that Thor had massive poops when he was on it compared to every other kibble he has eaten.

My EM eats Kirkland Adult dog food. I would suggest just getting the Adult Food (all adult Kirkland dog food has been highly recommended grain free or not.) The puppy food just has really high protein which is good for some other growing puppies, but I would think it is way too much for a growing English Mastiff- you don't want to force it to grow too fast as it could have joint problems. I gave her the kirkland puppy food at first and yes her poops were really soft. When I switched her over to adult food at about 3.5 months it made a big difference. I would just skip Puppy food entirely.

She still eats Kirkland Adult kibble today :)

Congrats on your puppy!
