Kryten needs X-rays

Some of you may have read an earlier thread where I talked about Kryten having a limp. The next step in figuring out what is wrong is to take X-rays of his left elbow, suspected problem area. Since elbow dysplasia tends to be a bilateral problem he's going to need a double set done on each elbow. Since he has to be sedated do that they will be able to position him correctly I'm going to have them do his hips too, just for my peace of mind there doesn't seem to be a problem with them. I've know that there is likely a problem since last Tuesday but now that I've made the appointment it seems far more real and I'm terrified of what the radiologist is going to say. All I want is for my little monster to be healthy and happy again, not in pain.

Having them go under is so scary to me. When they X-Rayed Dozer he limped for a week after wards. Sending good thought to Kryten and you.

Not good news. Kryten has elbow dysplasia. The only "cure" is surgery. I'm going to call the specialist tomorrow after my vet has had time to transfer his file to them to set up an appointment and see where we go from there. I have started another thread where I plan to document his treatment so that others can find information since I was unaware that this could even be a problem. I knew to watch out for hip dysplasia but not elbow dysplasia. On a positive note his hips look great according to the vet. She even said he had a nice butt on the x-ray, it looks like he's on a ball..Lol.

That sucks, I 'm so sorry. Elbow dysplasia is just like hips in the fact that it's polygenic. It is genetic, but also can be environmental. How bad was the dysplasia? DJD1? 2? and remind me how old he is? I would let his breeder know for sure so they can be careful in their future breedings as not to create more puppies with this condition

He just turned 15 months. I don't know exactly how bad it is but I'm guessing very bad. I spoke to his vet today after she had heard back from the specialist who is recommending bilateral elbow replacement. I have an appointment with the specialist next Wednesday and I should find out more then. I've learned since joining this forum that despite choosing a better breeder than I did with Jiggers I still got Kryten from a byb and she stopped responding to emails a few months ago.
