Littermate Syndrome

Is this a common occurrence when bringing two puppies home together? We have always had two dogs, but there has always been at least 18 months between them. The first time was because we didn't know we would want two dogs and that's how it worked out, and there after it was new dogs after our older ones passed.

We have had three Rottweilers and two Cane Corsos (our last two). Out sweet boy Tsavo we lost in August 2020 to cancer. He was 5 weeks shy of 12. We lost our sweet girl Pamina May 6th, also to cancer. She was 3 1/2 months shy of 13.

We plan to take some time without dogs, but it's the first time in 25 years we haven't had a dog around. We miss Pamina like crazy and we miss not having a dog.

Anyway, I was starting to investigate breeders and litters, and we thought if and when we do this again, we would get two puppies together and that's when this discussion on littermate syndrome came up.

I'd like some insights from some of you with well founded opinions and experience on the matter.

If any of you want to find some pictures of our beautiful pups that have past (Tsavo and Mina), I have lots on my Instagram account k1600_johnny.

Thank you

Welcome to the forum,
Yes littermate syndrome can happen,
Myself and our gaughter had a pup from the same litter, around 6 months they didnt get on, both males.
Iv known people have to seperate them, and rehome one.
Weve had rotties now on our4th cane corso, our latest being mac, some of his littermates live close to each other, they really didnt get along, but get along with other dogs.
Personally with my knowledge of the cc, and this is what we did, we got 1 put started the training, then we got another when he was 6 months, each pup needs the training alone. 2 same aged pups together can really rough play which can soon turn to aggression, so a stable trained pup will be a lot better than 2 rogue same aged pups.
They can have same sex agression, but weve had 3 males, our eldest hated other males outsde his pack.
Il will look for you on instagram, we are lincolnshire corsos, im just learning on instagram not tech savy but i get there lol

Depends on what you want and what your tolerances are....I always raise pups togsther but I expectvthem to function as a pack and I take it for granted they will struggle for dominance unless the difference in dominance drive is signifigant...that's why they wear sturdy collars and I wear an unsharpened h and b sige knife as a breaking stick....depends on what you like
