Looking for a New Companion

First off hello to everyone, I am new to the forum and have been looking around for a Male Fawn English Mastiff puppy for a while and there are so many different breeders out there that ll say WE ARE THE BEST just like everything else. So I decided to do so more homework before I go any further. What I am looking for is refferences for quality breeders of the English Mastiff. I love the HUGE head. Asking for first hand knowledge of reputable breeders with great bloodlines. I am not currently into "showing" the dog but really want to be able to help further the Bloodlines along.

I would suggest not getting one from Applegate Mastiffs in South New Jersey. Have gotten two from them, both with problems.

Their dogs are beautiful...just checked out their website...look to be just a hobby breeder, which can be good....they probably take pride in every baby they produce....just make sure they have health testing, especially hips, hopefully elbows as well...

I know nothing really about EM breeders, but what I do know about CC breeders is when looking at websites, I want to see what the breeder is doing with their dogs besides breeding.
What/where they are showing. What events they are competing in. What the health scores are on the parents(links to pennhip/OFA results), copies of pedigrees that sort of thing.
I do not trust breeders that rely on the accomplishments of the dogs in the pedigrees, ie- grandparents if they are not showing the parents as well.
A good breeder should be striving to better the breed, to "create" the "perfect" dog that resembles the standard as much as possible.
I also HIGHLY distrust any breeder that has to say on their website how much they paid for their dog. That doesn't make the dog better IMO, I have seen dogs that cost an arm and a leg look like sh*t, that means nothing to me personally.
I suggest getting on the AKC parent board forum for the EM and ask questions, tell them what you are looking for.
Or go to the AKC site, look at the top 25 EM's that are going to Eukanuba and see what kennel names jump out.

We just bought an Brindle English Mastiff from an amazing breeder in IL (not sure if that's too far for you), here's the website www.glenandcindysenglishmastiff.com/. We were very lucky to come across the website by chance and she really takes pride in breeding and ensuring her dogs go to good homes. I know there are fawn and brindle puppies available also. The website has alot of information on the background also.

Thanks guys and gals for all the help thus far. I dont mind to travel to pick up the pup, I definately want to see the parents of the pups and the conditions/atmosphere the pups have been in. I have a 2 yr daughter and 2 small house dogs as well (toy yorkie @ a whopping 4 lbs and a min pin) as well as horses (we live in the middle of 200 acres with no other houses around for 1/4 mile at least. Barker seems to be very proud of his dogs I have spoke with him via email a couple times and he currently only has female pups available and says that normally his pups are sold a couple months before birth so im on the notify list and will stya in touch with him. Really wanting to get one by xmas but not gonna rush into a regret by any means. I have been searching the web and forums trying to sort things out. Like I said the old BLOCK head is important to me and the OPA is going to be needed as this is what happened to my German Sheppard. He was 14 yrs old and just started having hip problems this spring until then was very healthy and active but when his hips started they went fast.

Going to check out the link you provided SarahCraig. thanks again
