Manly breeds

I was actually surprised to see a corso on the list. Those lists are usually fairly mainstream. I didn't think many people knew what they are. Guess I'm wrong.

As a woman they missed the mark and I can say for a lot of the dogs there I would not be stopping to had out my number. They are missing some pretty good breeds that go based on impression. Not because I think they are manly (I mean the corsi were my idea and I am not a huge person by any means) but when I look at them they draw a second glance, a man walking one of them would just be connected. For me I wouldn't say 1/2 of the dogs there would but that is just my opinion.

Uhh...have you ever seen a guy driving a newer VW bug or a mazda miatta? Those are about as girly as it gets for cars.

LMBO:lolbangtable: I only laugh because my brother drives a Miatta, and he has a cat, Bahahahaha. My husband and I give him hard time about this ALL the time. The men in my family are not into cars at all, they drive whatever they get a great deal on, period, they could not care less. But it is still hilarious that you mentioned this. I will be sure to show this to him, thank you so much!!! I was also just meaning that while yes there are some really girlie cars as you greatly pointed out, there are not really cars that are just manly. I know women that drive roadsters, trucks, jeeps, muscle cars, etc. I used to drive a truck even.

And I agree that the main reason that people/women would be impressed with a large dog is that don't know how they would handle them. But IMO, I don't really see the difference in small and large dogs. I mean, I guess the giants eat a bit more, hehehe, but I never trip over my EM either. Bathing is a bit easier when you can actually pick up your dog, but I don't have to bend over to pet Mamie either. I think the list started us a great thread, but is a bit off on the ratings. Maybe we should ask all of the women on this forum their top 10 picks and make a real list of what would impress us.

I agree with you. If I saw a man walking a lab or shepherd, I would not even glance. The EM would get my attention. So would a neo, or any mastiff breed. By the way, I have only known 3 folks to own ridgebacks(2 chicks and a family- the mom wanted it) I used to want one til I decided on EM

Strange list. As a woman I'd consider any dog over 50lbs that's low maintenance to be a Manly dog... other than that it's just personal taste. I would think there would be more sporting breeds on the list since guys are generally much more into hunting than women.

Yup. Who ever wrote that list was drunk :razzberry:
The CC's intelligence is high, as in monkey smart :D
As for labs... Well they may be smart if they weren't such nut bars...
Not a man, but the idea of manly dogs is ridiculous IMO. if one needs a dog to reinforce their masculinity, I would be concerned.

yeah - American Bully - that's the kind of dog my daughter and her bf have and oh such a doll he is. He tries to be all manly with the dog but he's so sucky and does baby talk in his Kiwi accent all the time, my daughter just rolls her eyes. He's about 100 lbs now, here is a photo of Andrew holding Ernie. Ernie loves this.

When I see a Lab I think 'Farm dog' don't see where they get the whole manly thing from there. We have had a Lab, Shepherd and Dobe and have a Rottie, but where is my favourite Bullmastiff?!?! He deserves to be on there before a Lab and Husky. I also have to hold back the snickers when I see a guy walking a small dog- just looks out of balance :D

And our Labrador was a fool. All they think about is how to fill their belly. Max was a great family pet, our first, but not so smart.

IMO the list sucks. I don't think the person did research on the breeds when it comes to intelligence. When I think of "manly" dogs I think of dogs that require a firmer hand. Labs are easy dogs and in general black labs aren't very smart. My sister has one and I can't stand the dog.
Also the rescue I volunteer with has recently stopped taking in BLACK labs due to the fact that all the ones we get end up being retarded and wont house break for anything. The other colors are fine though.

If a man has a dog that he can't control (big or small) he just looks like a fool. Doesn't matter the gender of who is walking a mastiff, you are going to take a second look.

I am a women and I like my big dogs. People are impressed that a little 5ft 2" women is walking a 95lb rottweiler or an 130lb mastiff thing (or both) and isn't being dragged around. Now if my boyfriend tries walking the rottweiler, she pulls him around and acts like she doesn't know how to walk on a leash and this doesn't appear very "manly" to me. He isn't allowed to walk Chumah because he feels like a bad person when he corrects the dogs.
He likes little dogs and wants ANOTHER toy poodle, he had one as a teenager.

I told him he needs to get himself his poodle so I can walk my Rottweiler and Mastiff myself. I don't like him walking my dogs but he insists to walk the rott in public because he feels embarrassed out in public being with me while I walk two big dogs and he isn't walking anything. LOL

Even while walking the Rottweiler he is embarrassed that he isn't walking the bigger dog.

No offence... As he should be. He should'nt carry the easy box or make you dig a ditch while he drinks sweet tea either. He has to share the load as a man. And a real women should as well.

TBH, its plain dumb, doesnt have any hard data or how they got those results just as observations:

-Place 5 to 9 have a tie on the average qualification (6.33), so probably they just decided the rates on a cultural prejudice. You can safely move EM or CC up to #5, which is fair to be honest.
-On "The intelligence of Dogs" book the rates are as follow RRidgeback #52, Labrador #7, GS #3, Doberman #5, Rottweiler #9, Husky #45 and Bulldog #58. Hell I read somewhere that some australians mix RR with Pitbulls to make them easier to train.
-Labrador being Americas favorite breed, maybe was placed as #2 just as control or to get a general agreement on the list, maybe 50% if not more own a lab so 50% of the people will go "pheewwww im on the manly list baby!"
-Bulldogs?!?! well... they are impish fart machines, guess that makes them manly.

I linked the list on the Spain Labrador forums, just to check what they said, will look back for coments in a couple days.
