Hello fellow fila lovers
I am searching for the perfect puppy.. Ive been scouring the internet looking for breeders of the awesome Fila. Ive come across a lot! A lot that Ive seen bashed here for not so good practices. A lot that I find aren’t apparently breeding anymore. Im having trouble finding breeders that are actually still breeding and aren’t breeding an unhealthy stock.
Im not looking for a show or breeding dog. I have ZERO intentions of that, I just want one that is going to come to me healthy and as good as it can be free of genetic defects. Basically that means papers really don’t mean anything to me. I have 3 purebred animals but none of which have papers, and all (so far) have been genetic healthy.
So let me tell you a little about me and my family, hopefully that will help you point me in the right direction.
I have been obsessed with the breed for many years now and have done a lot of research and studying on them. I first came across the breed in 2005 when a close friend of ours asked us out and his father was going to babysit for our 2 small children. When we got to his house we were greeted by a fila looking in the car at us. Needless to say we didn’t get out until her owner came out to get us.
What really turned us onto the breed was when we returned, the fila had adopted my babies as hers and wasn’t very happy that we had plans to take them with us.
Fast forward a little. She had a litter of 3 pups. 1 went to someone they knew, 1 went to his son and our friend and the other came to us. Sadly where we lived at the time parvo ran rampant and even puppies that were vaccinated often came down sick. My sweet Emma got sick, as soon as she showed signs of an illness we took her to a vet. The said she had some bacteria and gave her some meds. She died the next day . Our friends puppy also came down with it, They took him to a different vet where he diagnosed it as parvo and they were able to save that puppy and today is still a thriving big boy! (old but good)
Since that time the Fila has been on my dream dog list, that breed that I would own one day when we lived in the right place.
Fast forward to now. Im 29yrs old and been married 11yrs and we have 5 kids that range in ages of 2-9. I have 3 other dogs that live with us. 7yr old English mastiff, 2yr old german shepherd and 11mth old Chinese crested.
We live in a very rural area. Our house sits at the dead end of a ½ mile dirt road. We are actually the only house on our road! So basically.. If you don’t live in my house then you have NO reason to be on my road! We have 4 acres of land with our house, but my husbands family owns another 14 acres around us that sits unused by anyone but us.
My family and I are home bodies. We enjoy being home, where we can enjoy doing anything we choose to outside. We have 2 ponds just a short stroll from the house (can be seen from my back porch). We do a lot of walking around in the woods in the spring, summer and fall. But also like to just sit back and relax indoors and play games with the kids, play some guitar or just watch some movies.
What Im looking for in a fila; I want a dog that will love us with his or her everything. A dog that would literally give his or her life if the situation would call for it to protect the family. I want a dog that isn’t going to just look/sound threatening (I have 2 of those already) when someone that doesn’t belong here steps foot onto the property.
We are not entertainers, so its an extremely rare thing for people to be at our house. I am a stay at home mom, so there is little time that no one is home. We have no doubts that we can and will be the dominate leader in the house, so the powerful nature of the fila doesn’t intimidate us. With 5 kids we have learned to be patient yet firm in our handlings.
Im not sure as to exactly when we are going to be in the market to actually buy a pup. It depends on the cost of the pup plus shipping. If it were the right price it could be now, if its more expensive than we have planned for right now then it would likely be next year. But I figure its never too early to start looking for a good breeder
Guess I will stop going on and on now! Hope everyone has an amazing day!
