Hi Everyone...my name is Jimmy....I owned a Fila about 15 years ago...great dog...I am married now with 2 kids (3 and 4). I am extremely familiar with the breed and understand its' hatred of strangers...my question is this: we will be having more children....I know the Fila will love and protect my family with his/her life...but will he/she accept our new baby every couple years (want 8 kids)...we have our next due in October. I assume with the right introductions the answer is "no problem, he/she will accept the new addition." But everything I read tells me that after 2 years, the Fila will only tolerate the ones he/she knows, while anyone new will be considered a stranger, which will be danger. Anyone have any experience/insight on this one?...I want this breed again, but thought we might be smarter to go with an English; although I really want the protection of my wife and kids when I am gone at work...also, I remember my Fila boy was a bit loud when I'd leave the house, and or any time he heard something...don't want to anger the neighbors if he/she will be overly loud/barking/howling all the time. Thanks!!! Grateful.

Welcome! I don't have any experience with a fila so I couldn't say. But I commend you on getting opinions prior to getting another fila! Hopefully some fila owners will chime in soon.

Welcome! I don't have any experience with Filas, but I love the pic, esp. the "Beware of dog" sign on the car!

Thanks Deb! No problem. I could be wrong but I don't think it is a serious post...8 kids, the driver of the car looks a little old. No offense intended.

Welcome! well, I have had Filas for the last 20yrs. I had my 1st child when my Filas were 9 and 3yrs old.I experienced no problems with my dogs accepting her into the family at all.Mine had never been around children either. With my 2nd child, 6 yrs later,I only had an 8 month old Fila.Again, no problem as long as the introductions are done properly. As far as the barking,I live in the city and my girls do alert and even worse when they are out with the kids. But, none of my neighbors seem to mind(I have asked them). My biggest pet peeve is a barking dog!!!So, my own drive me batty!!Good luck.

I dont have any experience there. But all I've read would say no problem. I wouldn't suggest having a un restrained fila in a car with the skin pealed back though

appreciate the words everyone...we're grateful. My wife and I are leaning towards a Fila female pup, but we're going to wait another day or two. Thanks again.
