You are correct that black is not a standard "acceptable" color, but if you were to follow the lineage of his dogs, he has produced black pups. I've been to this guys farm, and its the real deal. Dogs all have papers, dogs are actually more impressive in person (especially Mandela below), and he def has a lot of knowledge on them.

Pic is of the sire. 170lbs 30 in at the withers.

Dam on the left at 8 months. At maturity she was 130lbs and 30" at the withers. (Male kangal Dogo x boerboel)

I know it seems like mad scientestry, but these are some very impressive dogs. I like big dogs but i will not sacrifice size for agility/athleticism or health. I don't want a lawn ornament. Plus I'm not really into purebred/inbred dogs (not stating all purebred are inbred).

Here is a link to the video of the litter from which mine came from, it shows the dam and one other black pup that was produced.

I'm not trying to stir the pot i just wanted to give you the full details. Sorry if my response reads the wrong way...

No it's cool and should be open to discussion. No discredit to your dog, I am sure he will be great. I am a bit of an elitist when it comes to purity so when someone crosses a breed (especially my fav breed) I get a little twisted up and want to know what the reason is. Because to me the Boerboel is already complete and needs no adjustment, it is already a crossbreed dog that has been titled as a completed purebred dog. Jim the original black dog they registered as a Boerboel was purchased from a pet store and given to his owner who registered him as a Boerboel under his kennel name with no known parentage. While I would love to own a black BB I would not because I know they are diluted boerboels and will not be accepted by the current orgs that represent the BB. I currently own 2 mutts RottenChows that I love dearly and consider them a fantastic guard dog. But I wouldn't try to pass them off as something that they are not.

I agree. When somebody asks what kind of dog he is, I always explain the 3 breeds (which nobody in my area knows about). I would never try to pass him off as a pure breed black boerboel.

No matter what he's made of, he is beautiful. Looks like he's going to be a big boy. While I don't exactly agree with what your breeder is doing, you have a dog that you love and that's what's important I guess.

Just wanted so say hi!

I have a 6 month old pup, he is 75% boerboel-12.5% Dogo Argentino-12.5% Kangal. He is about 82lbs and 24-25" at the withers. I'll get pics up soon.

Looking forward to this informative site!

Hey this is my first post,,,, and its a burning question I have!!! I have been perusing the website of the Breeder of your dog (his intials are AJ from Washington state right)... Can I ask, what was the price range of the pups from that litter-- I am interested in hybrid mastiffs recently, need a homestead guardian that can get along with(or at least ignore) our Bernese Mt dog, giant schnauzer, flock of free range chickens and cats... as well as provide sentry duties for our 2 acres in the foothills of the Sierras, without being super barky. The schnauzer is pretty high maintenance and has too much prey drive for our needs... the Berner is about right (he is actually quite territorial, fairly dog aggressive, and has a formidable bark) but I am concerned about his future health... Anyways I needed to know if AJ's pups are even remotely within my price range, and found this site and your thread! Hello from one newbie to another!

Coomore, Shombay, Fuller and others are still in it for the breed. It's hard to buy a Boerboel from Africa right now due to restrictions set in place against the breed. Better to find a good breeder here that is still in it for the dog and not the money or fame.

I'm guessing you're asking because of the way he takes blind bids?

It's in the $1k+ range. I would assume the price would depend a lot on demand, as well.

Hope this helps.
