Oh, Sick Irony: Michael Vick To Buy His Kids A New Dog
Posted: July 18, 2012

NFL star and controversial public figure Michael Vick can now legally own a dog again, just five years after his conviction for illegal dog-fighting, and reports suggest that he’s ready for a new pup, though the QB is hiding behind his kids regarding theâ€whyâ€.

In an appearance on Piers Morgan’s show last night, Vick admitted that he’d like to get a dog, albeit for his kids. The Philadelphia Eagles QB was previously banned from owning dogs for three years following his 19 months served in federal prison, reports TMZ. The ban is just about up, and Vick sounds like he wants to celebrate it with a new canine companion, arguing that it would be “therapeutic†for his kids, or something.

“I can’t take that dream away from them,†argues Vick on behalf of his children. “That’s selfish on my behalf. You know, so, gotta find a way to make it right and, you know, I put everything in God’s hands to make it right.â€

Vick stressed that he wouldn’t be getting a pit bull, notes the Examiner.

Of course, we all remember with perhaps vivid detail the charges that kept Vick from owning a dog in the first place. In case you forgot, here’s a small snippet via NY Daily from the investigative report disclosed all the way back in 2007: “Vick, Peace and Phillips executed approximately six dogs by hanging and drowning. The hanging deaths occurred by placing a nylon cord over a 2×4 that was nailed to two trees located next to the big shed. The men drowned the others by putting the dogs’ heads in a five-gallon bucket of water.â€

Still, things are reportedly somewhat contentious between Vick and the kids. “The lowest moment was when I had to tell my son that I was going to prison, and that I was going to be going for two years,†said Vick, calling it the hardest thing he’s ever had to do, reports Yahoo Sports.

:rant2::rant2::rant2::rant2::rant2::rant2::rant2:

I'm sorry; I have hated this man & everything he stands for since the first news came out about him. I have boycotted products that have anything to do with the Phil Eagles; I use him as an example of one of the most evil things people can do or be.
As far as I'm concerned Mr. Vick lost the right to own any live being, down to goldfish or even a worm farm. I also question whether he should be around children. Can't say enough bad things about him. End rant.

I remember that hit the news big here in Ontario Canada, I was so disgusted. He should never EVER beable to have an animal. He ruined the change to give a dog to his kids when he did what he did. "In GODS hands", I hope as he says this he realizes animals ARE GODS CREATIONS. SICK SICK SICK

So you're saying for dog fighting, abuse, no medical attention, the grave yard of bones in his backyard, and the all but too cruel ways to "euthanize" dogs on his behalf only had him not own a dog for THREE years? Dogs are a PRIVILEGE, not a right! I think he lost that privilege long, long ago.

Vick was never charged or sentenced with any counts of animal cruelty. He was imprisoned for pandering & running an illegal gambling operation. In the years since, he has NEVER shown any remorse for electrocuting, hanging, choking, and repeatedly slamming dogs to death. He has only been sorry he was caught. His work with HSUS has also reflected regret for participating in illegal gambling operations, not murdering many animals, and scarring many for life. Sure, I'm a passionate dog lover, so I see the foul, disgusting side of this beast. But I'm totally amazed that he has gotten as far as he has with his "poor me; I'm so sorry" attitude. And if I was the mother of those children, I would do everything within my power to keep that monster away from them. He just makes me so angry. Is this really someone we want our children to look up to? And you're right; having a dog is a privilege, not a right.

Forgot to add ASPCA's response:

Despite spending 19 months in prison for running an illegal interstate dog fighting business, Vick hasn't expressed a shred of empathy toward the dogs he brutalized and killed. And rather than talk about the horrors of dog fighting, he has consistently chosen to focus on the consequences of getting caught. In a nutshell, his actions are self-serving. We've seen little remorse and even less compassion. And let's not forget, he caused unspeakable suffering to hundreds of innocent dogs. Frankly, the ASPCA has serious concerns about Vick's ability to be a responsible pet parent.

Ugh. Banning him from owning a dog for 3 years is just simply not enough. He should've been banned for life!!!!

Well HSUS supports him owning another dog so...
What a POS organization! As long as he gives them money to line their wallets and help NO animals he is a swell guy.
It is sickening. I thought the judge had ordered that he never own another dog, and HSUS was helping him over turn that ruling.
I am so sick of the "for the children" argument, is a load of BS!

The HSUS is as big of a joke as PETA. They do nothing but line their pockets with money duped from a sympathetic public. Less than 1% actually went to help animals last year.

Vick is a sick man. Anyone who can torture an animal for pleasure is sick in the head. No way I would let him near my kids. I also boycott anything he has to do with. I am an avid football fan and refuse to watch any games of theirs (even against my favorite team). I also boycott Nike, fuse, Unequal, Musclefarm etc, anyone who would support him in any way.

He is sick in the head, and nothing he has done since then is anything other than a strategically designed plan to get into the fans (and corporate) good graces. NOTHING that man will do will ever be enough to make it right, and companies that reward that behavior make me sick. There are many other players who aren't borderline psychopaths to sell your products.

This reminds me of this:
Warning: Do not sale or buy dogs from Jesse Harris, his number is 502 243 5866 and he owns NSABT kennels located in Louisville, Kentucky. !!! He breeds dogs and when they die he cuts them in small peaces and feeds them to his other dogs to save money on food. This is man is sick and crazy! He posted these photos online and openly admitted to this saying is part of life.....Dont ever support this man!!!

Funny how if someone is charged with a domestic offence they are unable to EVER own guns again. But a man who was part of the willful death of dogs for sport and financial gain can own one after 5 years.

Vick is a puke...I was so mad when it was announced that he would be going back to pro-football... IMO professional athletes should be role models and letting him back into the sport is just promoting criminal behavior in pro athletes IMO.

He was at the Federal prison "camp" in my town and I kept hoping he would get shanked! Maybe that's mean of me, but IMO he doesn't deserve to be alive after what he's done!

Not mean at all...I agree with you. Being shanked would be too humane...

Vick should not be allowed to have any privileges in life except to live in an 8 X 10 cell with one small window with 2 meals a day and the occasional walk outside. When he's allowed outside, he should be put on a leash. If he gets out of hand, electrocute him.

You're too nice! I wouldn't even offer him meals or any sort of outside time. I'd leave him in solitary & not offer him any sort of contact whatsoever. Let him die a long miserable death. Maybe then that would be enough pain & suffering!
