Our recent dog sled "races"

After all winter training we have entered a few fundraiser races.
Our first one was better than I expected, it was a 1k track and while the more traditional sled dog type dogs ran it with times of 3 minutes and a few seconds we did it in 9 minutes!!! (which is pretty darned good for a 2 dog team consisting of a Tibetan Mastiff) we were the 11th team out and we came in 10th place out of 13 teams. I'm super proud of my guys.
Here we are coming up to the finish line

My dogs decided to stop at the timer guy and say Hi... the clock is still running because we haven't crossed the line yet lol

Re: Our recent dog sled "races"

Hey half my thread is gone...
The last sentance was explaining last weekends race with karma off on another team.
I raced Elmo and Marv and our time was 10 minutes and some on a really soft trail after our 3 feet of snow we got, and I had stopped twice to pick up a camera and car keys that one of the faster racers had lost. So all in all I think we did better time wise and roughly the same in placings.
I hooked up all 3 for the 'anything' goes race which was just more or less to keep going around the track not being timed and the teams being one dog or as many as you have. My guys run MUCH better together as you can see here.

And here is Elmo really channelling his inner lead dog " i am a lead dog, be the lead dog"

All time best picture of the weekend :)

The last photo is fantastic! how some people say the mastiff types don't show much expression is beyond understanding.

Awesome! Great pics too:) I wanted to try skijoring with my Dobe but we moved from Minnesota when he was 1.

Re: Our recent dog sled "races"

I ran sleddogs for 30 years and miss it since we moved to GA. We're farmers now and have herding dogs. My wife has agreed to let me get a mastiff/bulmastiff cross puppy and train it to harness. Very exciting. I plan to do draft work and a little bikejoring with her.
